GSY Video PC

Since we won’t be getting the remake promised by Ubisoft, fans nostalgic for the superb Prince of Persia : The Sands of Time can count on GOG, which has just added the cult classic to its preservation program, making it more enjoyable to play on modern systems. 16:9 and widescreen displays are now supported, with scaling options that preserve the game’s correct vertical aspect ratio; you can choose different frame rates, and a new overlay even lets you adjust the FOV if you’d like. However, there are still a few quirks here and there, notably the very brief pixelation effect when the camera changes zoom levels (such as when switching to the distant camera angle, or when the prince starts drinking the water at his feet, for example), but the game is still just as fun to control despite its age, and revisiting it is a real pleasure.

Press release

August 18th, 2026 – Today, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time joins the GOG Preservation Program with a major technical update to make this classic adventure run smoothly on modern PCs.

Our team has gone deep into the sands of the original Scimitar engine, rebuilding our early experimental work into a lightweight wrapper designed to address the challenges of running this 2003 classic on modern hardware.

The result brings a host of improvements without changing the experience at the heart of the game. The Prince can now properly explore modern widescreen and ultrawide displays, with customizable camera scaling that preserves the same vertical view across different aspect ratios. You can also lock the game to your preferred frame rate, keep your mouse confined to the game window when using multiple monitors, and adjust FOV and other settings on the fly through a new in-game overlay.

After all these years, the Prince’s journey deserves to remain playable for years to come. We hope these improvements make it easier than ever to step into the sands, rewind time, and experience one of gaming’s most memorable adventures on modern hardware!
