Ubisoft reveals a bit more about Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier multiplayer. The latter will feature 3 classes and 4 game modes. The beta will start on April 19 and end on May 2 before the game hits store shelves on May 22 (24 in Europe).
And this ladies and gentlemen is how you give a big fuck you to all the original fans of a series..
I do think this looks good and can see why some people get excited about it, but cloaking, jumping around, running and gunning really does make me pissed off they called this a Ghost Recon game..
I was a fan of the original GR, well the 3rd person from Ghost Recon 2. But the more futuristic gadget and gear, the more I liked (sci fi nut what can I say).
So this is right up my style, modern setting, but having some high tech gadgets, faster pace with some slow tactical if you want and just have fun.
But I fully understand why fans of the original hate it, there is always Battlefield 3 and similair "super realistic" shooters out there.
Anyways, beta is out next week, I got my PS3 beta code ready to try this out, I hope I will have alot of fun and dont find much BS to annoy me in progress to say no to purchasing it.
But from videos, looks awesome.

True, like I said, I can see why this might appeal to people, I'm not even touching that shit with a 10 foot pole :P

Battlefield online does not hold a candle to the Ghost Recon titles.

It's ubisoft, it's all they seem to do this gen. POP08, far cry 2, rainbow six vegas, splinter cell, this. They take what we all know and love, and then basterdise it but keep the name. Having a name they can sell games off the back of is clearly more important to them then retaining a games identity.
Yeah, that's why I'm really scared about what they're going to do with the upcoming rainbow six...
They'll do exactly what they do with all their games, make it even MORE accessible, reduce the need for stratagy, and have "one button does everything" context sensative gameplay. It's the ubisoft way afterall.

I think it's more to do with the devs not wanting to make the same game over and over and getting bored doing it....sadly for us we want the same game over and over but just updated.

Thing is times change, if they keep doing the same stuff over and over instead of gaining new fans they begin to lose them even hardcore fans.
Or if they stay too much on their roots people complain that is only a reskin of a previous games and that they dont want to take risks.

Are you mad, Son?
Mad? No not really, I'm just disappointed.. Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, they're all games that had an unique selling point compared to other shooters.
- Ghost Recon had great open maps, with missions you could tackle in different ways, you had to lay low in the beginning, observing the enemy and planning your next move(s).
- Rainbow Six, basically a close quarter Ghost Recon, same realistic/tactical game play, planning, etc
- Splinter Cell, the best in the modern day stealth games genre.
And look at what they did:
Ghost recon future soldier: Codified it
Splinter Cell: Where's the stealth? More like jason borne killing machine
Rainbow Six: Like I said, I'm scared to see what they turned this into...
Futuristic gadgets means new ways to open up the actual gameplay.
If you stay the same course its all move slow, prone, get up and pass, atleast thats how it was in past GR if I remember it right.
But when you have new gadgets to play around with like cloak, drone, radar, hacking intel of the devices of the enemy...etc. it opens up variety. Besides, Tom Clancy universe is in 2013+ year now, so obviously weapons and equip will be more and more advanced and with Ghost they always pack the latest and greatest.
Its all nostalgia for people without seeing past that.
The trailer shows the "action" so it excited people more as a trailer, but I seen the beta footage, its nowhere near as this hectic and fast.

Nostalgia does come into play, but that's only a small part of it.
It's mostly that they haven't just updated the game, they've changed the entire foundation that the original games were built on.
It now looks like a action movie, running and gunning cod action, sliding/jumping to cover, movie style melee kills, I mean it's almost completely a different type of game...

Is a risky situation I agree.
Whats your solution?
Please the fans but make it a game new comers cant say no to. Chaos theory managed it for the splinter cell series. At it's core it was the same game as the last 2, but it was refined and improved and was a HELL of a looker. Made it hard for even non-fans to ignore. Conviction however, that stepped over the line, accessibilty and a new audience was their priority, they said "fuck you" to the people who put them on the map in the hopes they'll get with the new kids.
It's the equivilent of spitting on you friend of 10 years in the hopes it will make you more appealing to the cool kids in school. Their chasing popularity. What ubisoft dont seem to realise, is we where the ones who made their franchises popular to begin with and they're spitting on us. Fuck em.

Spot on, Rainbow 6 is my last hope for a good tactical shooter...sadly i think it will be poor.

You are making me excited describing it like that LOL
But then again, I am a guy who likes fast paces and rushing in any game I play, sucks for original fans though.
I remember playing Ghost Recon 2 on Xbox Live for hours at night, was awesome for sure, I hope I get the same feeling for this one if all turns out good in the beta.
I thought the original Ghosr Recon, yes the one that played like a hovering camera with bullets, BORING.

I agree in some form, I felt Conviction was a slap on the face, I couldnt get into it at all, not what SC was about.
I can't comment much on GR cause I only played the first briefly like for some hours.
Is too bad Ubisoft are doing this to be honest, but I don like how this game looks and plays for what I have seen and Im always open to changes so in that aspect I dont feel that bad.
I think it's more to do with the devs not wanting to make the same game over and over and getting bored doing it....sadly for us we want the same game over and over but just updated.
To me it seems that games are being "simplified" and made to mirror sensationalist hollywood styles & narratives. Not that that isn't fun, or that such games are bad games, just not what many would expect or hope for.
Here is one of the more open levels that is very Ghost Recon-ish IMO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nyZ2gNoBr4&list=PL...
I think it also depends on the maps, the ones we saw was very close quarters while this one is bigger, and no I dont see COD-vibe anywhere.
No perks, no killstreaks, no first person run and gun (you can aim in first person for better accuracy though).
Stop using COD as an excuse when its nothing like that. If anything, Uncharted 2 and 3 is more like 3rd person COD with perks and killstreaks, GR FS doesnt have any of that.
Simple, perhaps, but that doesnt mean everything is automatic, there is still strategy behind this with a good team and you dont rely on kills from killstreaks.

We should start to pack our bags then because almost all games are going in that direction, I was saying to Sath that in the not distant future I see myself playing only XBLA games :D
There are still coming out pure gameplay hardcore games there

Sath sometimes you do have your head up your ass; when we mention Cod as an reference we don't just mean the literal elements from the game like kill streaks and unlockables.
It's more than that, it's the fast paced shooting gameplay, pick up and gun someone down. Fast paced movement including jumping/bunny hopping/diving. Twitch action gameplay.
Which by itself is nothing to worry about (Heck I've played a lot of COD), problem is a lot of shooters are going down that same route. Not focusing on being unique anymore it's purely based on it being appealing to the Cod fans.
Like an high octane action movie, Hollywood at it's crappiest if you ask me.
I don't want 10 shooters a year that offer the same experience, I want to be able to choose different type of games... But it's getting harder and harder finding a different style of shooter...
Especially the tactical variety that Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six used to offer..
