Gran Turismo®6 is coming!
Kazunori Yamauchi announces new game at Gran Turismo 15th anniversary event
70 million franchise figure was also revealed

Silverstone, 15th May, 2013– Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced Gran Turismo®6 (GT6™), the latest version of PlayStation®’s best-selling franchise, will be released in Holiday Season 2013. The news was revealed today by legendary Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at an event held to celebrate 15 years of the 70-million-selling series.*

GT6 for PlayStation®3 will bring new levels of authenticity to ‘the Real Driving Simulator’ as well as introducing stunning new tracks and cars and a revised user interface. A new compact game engine will improve operation and increase the flexibility to expand it with downloadable content. Meanwhile, the game is also set for expanded connectivity with other devices such as smart phones and tablets and increased social and community functions.
All of the cars and tracks from Gran Turismo®5, which has sold over 10m copies* since launching in 2010, will be retained in GT6. But notable new additions to the already impressive line-up of historic cars, road cars and the latest race cars, brings the total car list to 1200 at launch, with new cars set to be continually added online. Several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels will be available for almost all cars, and players can personalize their own custom cars in game to the greatest ever level possible.

The UK’s famous Silverstone Circuit will be just one of seven new locations in GT 6, taking the total to 33, with 71 different layouts available, 19 of them brand new. There will also be regular additions of new tracks set to be made available online. The improved course maker function will provide gorgeous scenery spanning several tens of square kilometers including the magnificent backdrop of Andalucía.

The theme of Gran Turismo’s innovative collaborations with partner companies will increase with the inception of GT6. A number of exciting new projects that blur the line between the virtual and real will be announced in the run up to the game’s launch. Not least of these is GT Academy, a collaboration with Nissan to unearth real racing driver talent that first ran in 2008. It was announced during the event that the competition returns for its biggest ever year in 2013, with the entry mechanic set to take place on an exclusive GT6 demo in July.

Other notable partnerships in the development of GT6 have been with tyre manufacturer Yokohama Rubber and suspension company KW Automotive. Both companies are active in the commercial car industry and in racing, and they have acted as technical development partners for the game’s new physics engine, for its tyre and suspension kinematic modeling, creating an even more realistic experience for GT fans.

“It is amazing to think that it is 15 years since we first released Gran Turismo,” explained Kazunori Yamauchi, during the announcement at Silverstone Circuit. “Things have changed a lot since then and now Gran Turismo 6 is a further evolution of my dream. We’re pleased to deliver GT6 to PlayStation 3 as we have a very loyal community on that platform. However, we have refactored the game to make it very flexible and expandable, with a view to making many future developments. I am very pleased with everything about the new game and the new additions, but the launch will be only the beginning for GT6. The game will continue to develop throughout its life. I already have many ideas for things I want to achieve in the next 15 years of Gran Turismo!”

The celebration of 15 years of Gran Turismo event at Silverstone included a demo of GT6 featuring the famous circuit. Guests were able to play the game in the familiar circular Gran Turismo race pods before having a chance to take to the real track in cars provided by Audi, Ford, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan and Toyota.

Further news about GT 6 will be revealed at the forthcoming E3 and Gamescom events and on www.gran-turismo.com. #GT6iscoming

Looks as nice as ever, but it's feature set isnt making me want to rush out and buy it. Think i'll stick with GT5, and wait for PS4's GT7 in 2019.

One thing that would make me buy it is if their touted 1200 car list were all premium? Any word if they still have a standard/premium split of cars?

Only question bothering me - will all 1200 cars be fully modeled (with interiors and not just high-poly models from prev. installments' photo mode) or division on premium and not remain (which is sadly more believable).

UPD. Lol, KORNdog, nice parallel thinking %)

Lol, yeah. I can't imagine they will be all premium. But the fact they're saying aerodynamic parts will be usable on almost ALL cars, suggests they could be.

the fact they say "ALMOST all cars", suggests they wont be.

Disappointing its announced for ps3 rather than ps4 tbh

Almost all means almost the entirety of the car selection. If it was an split of 200 premiums and 800 standards like GT5, that wouldn't be close to "almost all". I'd assume "almost all" would be like, all of them bar the obvious, like 1930's army jeeps or 70's VW camper vans.

It would be awesome with those cars, but what really troubles me, are the tracks. You see the car only during replays, if You play from cockpit, but You have to look at some of those badly upscaled tracks all the time. I really hope, all tracks will be remastered.

I hope that PD is not forced to 'rush' with the release, because of the PS4 warming up its engines allready.

Screens look great as ever, but who questioned that?
However, they could show some rain...

just because they'll be more premium doesn't mean that they'll ALL be premium. I really cant see there being 1200 premium cars can you? not when it takes them so long to model just one. There's naturally bound to be more premium cars though than found in GT5 - it's going to already have the gt5 + dlc premium library to build on. But 1200? not a chance... maybe by the time GT6/7 hits ps4.. but then we'll probably be complaining that the existing premium cars need a make over. Who really needs 1200 cars in their racing game anyway?

gt5 was not polished and has graphics issues but the graphics is probably the best thing about this game. Only the night track is really dark. track layout and design is superb but car selection is poor compare to other games and this game is about cars. lol

well, it's rather subjective topic since i found car selection pretty good and satisfying (except for Toyota AE86 being not premium - drift nerd inside me still raging %))

Pretty disappointed by this announcement! It seems 800 PS2 cars are going to remain in the game while only 200 Premiums will be added.

By the time GT7 is out on PS4 it will be filled with PS3 cars with very little PS4 quality cars.

Also i would of loved to of seen a "locked 60fps" :(

I have not played this game much honestly. They probably have lots of nice cars. But no porsche and forza has better selection I think. Tracks in gt probably is the best. nfs shift 2 is another game which has awesome tracks

I'm slavishly devoted to the franchise so I'll buy it just like I bought everything else. I guess they don't want to take away sales from the Evolution Studios racing game.

With tessellation i'm not sure what is going to differentiate GT6's cars and next gen cars anyway. The poly count will be irrelevant by that point. It'll be about lighting, materials and shaders. Something GT is already great at anyway.

Shift 2 has by far the best track selection of console racers...No other comes close!

Such a shame the handling is so odd.

I like how they are still supporting PS3. PS4 game will be released later. Here are the complete details:

I have a feeling this game is going to be really big and fix gt5 issues. I do not think they are competing with forza. Even if Forza gets released on 720. Drive club is already coming on PS4.

I think it will a very-very strange move not to release it on PS4 since game will come out on holidays and system will come out prior to them. I'm simply refuse to believe that Race Club will be prime racing launch/sellpoint game for PS4.

Drive club will launch with PS4. GT6, if it comes to PS4, will release later. Sony would be stupid to release GT6 right alongside drive club. Drive club would die on it's arse, even if GT6 is a port of a PS3 game.

If it was exclusive to the Ps4, sure, as a cross gen title? Probably not. And there was no way it would ever have been exclusive when you have 70+ million people with PS3's.
