GSY Review
PC
PS4
Xbox One
After being offered as a demo on PC and Xbox One, Destroy All Humans! is not available in its final version on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. If you've already tried the game, or played the original, you should have a pretty good idea of what to expect, but we have written a quick review should you need it to make up your mind. As usual, it's accompanied by a bunch of gameplay videos recorded on PC (in 4K) and Xbox One X (in 1080p).
Verdict
The original Destroy All Humans! came out back in 2005 on Playstation 2 and the first Xbox and it was a fun but in the end it was just an ok game whose strongest suit was its grotesque representation of the US of the late 50s. German developer Black Forest Games was in charge of the remake and we must say they did a pretty good job. Visually, though not on par with AAA games, it sill looks very nice despite the distracting pop-up and the stiff animations. The game design has remained pretty much the same, with a few improvements in the gameplay department, but those of you who have already played the original will be right at home. That's also probably why Destroy All Humans! won't leave that much of a strong impressions on newcomers. It's still a fun little game to enjoy but it's clearly nothing more and it might not be enough to justify a purchase to younger players, or even older ones. That being said, we must say we're quite happy to see the return of old AA franchises, even more so as you can tell the developers really wanted to remain true to the original material.
- On the upside
- Nice visual overhaul
- Funny when it hits...
- A certain variety...
- Getting more powerful with upgrades
- It's fun to cause mayhem....
[bOn the downside
- Framerate is all over the place on XB1X
- ... but also crude and dated
- ... except in the original voice cast
- Very stiff animations
- ... bit it's nothing exceptional either
