In 2016 no matter the system you're playing on, you're sure to have your share of vs fighting. Killer Instinct on Xbox One, Street Fighter V on PS4 and PC, not to mention multiplatform titles such as Guilty Gear or Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, simply pick one! Here comes a new challenger though. Pokkén Tournament was originally released for the arcades and it is now a Wii U exclusive. We played the game for you and now we can tell you what we think. As usual, for the full review, head over to the French side.
Verdict
Pokkén Tournament is a real fighting game, one that can be accessible to all, but also one which can content those in need for a more challenging experience. Hardcore players are bound to find some limitations here compared to some of the best games in the genre, but the presence of a rather fun single player mode and the variety in combat styles among the cast of characters makes it more than recommendable. Thanks to its nice overall presentation and its steady 60 fps frame rate, the game is really fun to play with friends or online. There could have been more content to make it more appealing in the long run, but you'll need to play for quite a long time before the game starts to get repetitive.
- On the plus side
- The phase system brings a bit of variety
- Smooth 60 fps gameplay
- Dynamic combat
- Nice single player mode
- On the down side
- A tad repetitive after a while
- Hardcore players might find it a bit limited
