On Gamersyde, the reviews come one after another, and no two are alike, which perfectly illustrates the wide variety of releases this September 2026. On today’s menu, we invite you to check out our verdict on Silent Hill: Townfall, the latest installment in the iconic series, developed this time by Screen Burn and Anapurna Interactive. Since we wouldn't want anyone to feel left out, there’s something for everyone this morning, a written verdict for the most dedicated readers and a (French) video review for everyone else.
Verdict
Although it inevitably draws from some more recent titles that were inspired by the franchise it now belongs to, Townfall offers a compelling experience that manages to maintain a clear connection to its roots while asserting its own personality. This new installment features a truly well-crafted atmosphere, blending latent anxiety with the pronounced melancholy of its setting and characters, and Unreal Engine 5 works wonders in bringing it all to life. To top it all off, the adventure is quite long for the genre (expect to spend between 15 and 20 hours to reach the first of the five available endings), especially if, like us, the time you spend in the various hideouts adds up to about half an hour in total. While it’s undoubtedly less action-oriented than some of its predecessors, it still offers a few ways to defend yourself—and even rewards the player by letting them play through two specific sequences where they’re well-armed, the first one putting them up against creatures that play hide-and-seek (a nod to the Stalkers from TLOU2?). Be aware, however, that Townfall won’t pit you against regular bosses (there’s only one at the end of the game, and the encounter isn’t particularly memorable) and that it will mainly require you to think things through and stay stealthy rather than charging in headlong. This didn’t bother us in the least, as the mystery surrounding the plot kept us on the edge of our seats right up until the end. If there’s any talk of a fall here, it certainly won’t be that of the series, which this year again, delivers a highly recommended title, and one sure to appeal to fans of the genre, whether they’re die-hard Silent Hill fans or not. We therefore hope that Konami will continue to place its trust in other studios as well as those that have already proven themselves with Silent Hill, so that its illustrious franchise does not fall back into the silent oblivion that was its lot for nearly ten years.
