Xbox 360 PS3

Rockstar isn't shy to pack its Grand Theft Auto IV with subliminal mockeries destined to the different actors of the videogames industry, one of which being Nintendo. The series never missed arrogance, but if you wish to be persuaded of this fact, there's a worthy image after the jump.

I think they must be referring to the little 8-bit style graphics on the sides of the building, although that doesn't necessarily have anything with Nintendo.
Actually, now that I look closer the fat balding blonde guy with a mustache is rather mario-esque, and that is a MUSHROOM cloud... so maybe.

Ok, I guess the Hulk-Hogan-like character looks like Mario when he is jumping.

8-bit Hulk Hogan, a Flying Karate Kick Guy, and a nuclear Explosion... I am so missing how this has anything to do with Nintendo.

Nintendo invented pixels.

The Hulk Hogan looks a fair amount like the Jumpman / Mario in Donkey Kong and Mario Bros (non-super), or regular Mario in SMB1.

The mustached old guy and the 'mushroom cloud' is obviously meant to allude to Nintendo's most famous franchise. What I don't get is how this is a mockery and arrogance? Ever heard of an homage? They obviously couldn't put in the real Mario and mushroom because of copyrights.

just different perceptions on how you think Rockstar tends to represent other companies. I think its more of a mockery type thing given rockstars history for crude humour

i'm gonna go with JonM and move away from the nintendo debate.

the graphics look like they did get better, yes. the gun model looks great considering that the past gta's gun models looked like they had melted textures on them. i like the attention to detail in it. i like too how the districts in this game have the proper residents that would be living in that certain area. like in this screenshot how theres an asian man in the background in what appears to be chinatown (not intending to sound racist there). i think with all this detail in the game i expect that its going to be something amazing

The logo just behind his head also looks like the Nintendo logo. Underneath the big 'videoblah' logo.

Ok, Rockstar have a history for crude humour and mocking others, but how is that relevant in this particular instance? I just can't see anything which is being mocked (and how)?

It's shaping up nicely indeed! Ok, so the graphics aren't all that amazing in terms of textures and polygons, but the attention to detail and atmosphere is outstanding!

One of the most important things is that the world feels alive. The way the characters interact with you and eachother, the density of the population on the streets, the interactivity with the environments (i.e. entering buildings) etc.

That's what I'm looking forward in seeing in some gameplay footage!
