DS

Activision announced today the release this summer of Guitar Hero: On Tour for the DS. I was more than sceptical when I received the announced, but it looks like it's actually playable thanks to the special accessory. Images and video inside.

I just can't see myself playing guitar hero on the ds. I feel corny enough playing it with the plastic guitar in front of my tv when no body can see me, so i'm not about to do it on the bus or something :P

Its so stupid, the only thing that set GH from other lame dance games was the fact that you could play it with a guitar and not feel like a complete geek, so by making a GH without a guitar is like making a flight sim without planes, it just isn't going to work.

Hmmmm, looked pretty cool to me too... though I don't have a DS.

Although, sound will probably suck without headphones which also makes it a bit cumbersome.

When a game is so popular that it has its own theme nights at bars and clubs, you shouldn't really feel corny at all playing it.

Isn't the whole point of this series to feel like you're actually playing guitar? Don't see how the DS fits into that.

Well, that's also retarded. I can see why this game is popular but god damn...it's just a game. Learn to play guitar for real instead :P

Playing an actual guitar takes a lot more time and effort. Guitar hero is more of a pick up and play game to have an afternoon or evening of fun with, plus it's a bit more forgiving if you mess up a note or two.

Eh, the concept isn't that bad.. but blowing on your DS mic is a retarded gameplay mechanic.

Oh and lol @ the ad.

I ment the club thing. Guitar hero is fun, sure, but it feels like people are taking it too far. Instead of baning away hour after hour on that little plastic hunk of junk, just invest some time in learning to play the actual instrument. In the end you are way better of having learned even a simple song for real, than bucket head on expert and the fact of the matter is that for the price of two guitar controllers and a game you can get a decent acoustic guitar :P

That said, it can be very fun to bust out guitar hero on a party after having a few cold ones and playng for a few minutes.

The concept of having it on a DS still sucks ass though. Crappy sound and probably few or VERY compressed songs. Also I just can't imagine feeling like a rock star with a little pink box bleeping away in my hand, instead of a full size electric guitar slung around my neck :P

I meant the club thing too. Remember in the end it's just a video game to have fun with. Actual instruments take a good amount of effort and isn't just a game.

DS is not an SNES. The sound will be good.

On graphics intensive games (like, 3D games since it is all software rendering), the quality won't be there. Sound is a major weakpoint of DS games. Prepare to have midi soundtracks or very poor quality sound, 128/256/512MB of romspace instead of 4 gig of DVD is not enough anyway.

Barf Happy said it all, you can only fit so much data on a DS cart. If you have one track for everything else and one track for guitar, that's double the space of just the song and then you have to fit the rest of the game on there too. Also i don't know how much data you can push through the DS at any given moment, like running 3d graphics, gameplay, sound effects and streaming 2 sound tracks at the same time?

I believe the max size of a DS rom is 128 megs, so I'd assume that's their limit with this game.

Elite Beat Agents had a TON of songs, and sounded quite amazing for 128 megs or less.

Getpwned: Ouendan: 15 songs, Beat Agents: 19 songs. Hardly "a ton" ;) And in the ouendan case, you wouldn't need 2 audio tracks for each song. Also the bitrate of the songs probably weren't all that great.
