"Better late than never" is an expression I'll use here, as the Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack has been out quite a while. Got it back then, but as I got a new capture card running now I thought I could finally do some capturing on it. Anyway, here's a video showing the three 'new' maps Avalanche, Ghost Town and Blackout.

Eeesh, i forgot just how bad Halo 3's graphics were. Didn't they make this pack free after a while? I was considering grabbing it but COD4 came along :D

This is probably the best look at the maps I've seen, I really like the way the video was done.

And wow, they look brilliant. I can't wait to grab 'em when they become free. It'll be interesting to see how they play.

edit: I'm interested to hear from people who've already played them, what are the pros 'n cons of the maps.

Still the best game ever and Ghost town has to be the best looking MP map in any game.

The lighting engine in Halo 3 is utterly phenomenal, they went the whole (wart)hog with it and unfortunately it doesn't get appreciated anywhere near enough. If anything I think Bungie went too far with the technical side of this game, a lot of developers seem to get praise for their clever "faking" or corner cutting.

You also wont find another console FPS with higher resolution textures than those found in Halo 3.

Thank you so much for this! I've been playing CoD4 for so long I haven't seen Halo 3 in a month or so. And seeing these new maps makes me want to DL them and play Halo for a while :D

Anyone who has looked at anything up close in the real-time replays knows Halo 3 looks amazingly good, especially up close.

Certainly better than what we've seen so far from Killzone and Resistance.

What I can't wait for is the Gears 2 video replay feature. Those screenshots will be so detailed, they will smoke anything. Best of all? video and image proof of it for all the internet to see.

And yet the game uses crap filtering which destroys most of the texture quality.

Bungie opted for performance and polish, which is a wise and appreciated choice. Many other FPS have way too many bells hanging on the christmas tree, resulting in slowdown and/or screen tearing. Seems many gamers rather have this than a beautiful and polished product with a "limited" palette of graphical prowess. Even this is open to debat: some say Halo 3 is really Halo 2.5, but those people don't understand a thing about gfx, programming, nor design. I'd rather have a product like Bungie's than so-called top games with a lack of polish because the developer is unable or not skilled enough to produce all the bells and whistles at a decent framerate. Hail to polish, hail to stable gameplay!

And yet even after being destroyed by "crap" filtering, they still look better than any other console FPS out there by quite a margin.

thats laughable when you compare it to the texture quality of cod4, or Bioshock. I dont think anybody can denie that halo3 was a let down in terms of graphics...the lighting was great, but the models, animations, and levels were all straining a very dated engine.

But that was the exchange for a very technically impressive game..4 player co-op, and constantly recording each and every players move throughout.

graphically a let down, the game itself though was probably the strongest Halo...the AI being up there with the very best in a game. I really hope the Peter Jackson game comes to light soon..and maybe Halo's story can get a narrative it deserves..as Bungie simply cant pull off story structure well enough.
