looks like a pretty painless process in comparison to the drama that the Spartan 1 and 2 guys go through :/

Try to see the 'midnight in the heart of midlothian' short, then you'll see how short-spaned and dispensable ODST based the Spartan II project, were. Theres' a reason on why there almost isn't a single original team member on the Noble Team, besides Carter.

The Extended version is suposed to be Up tomorrow.

Saw this last night on tv. I keep seeing people complain that its not true to this that or the other, fact is, it's an advertisement created to be shown on prime time tv and with pg films, they can hardly show invasive surgery and extreme distress.

I'm a bit wrong,. The Noble Team are compremised of simple soldiers, Carter on other hand is the exception being a experimental Spartan III program trained from childhood, in a time of dispensable Spartan II.

one thing the halo does SOOOOO fantastically well is the music, I'm hard pressed to think of a game with a theme of music I love so much I think it's just brilliant.

The ad is quite shitty. Also, Spartans shouldn't be skinny like this boy, even before genetic augmentations. I expect the commercials for the final game to be far better.

As far as music goes, there's many games with great soundtracks. Halo and Metroid both have always excellent music.

Well, most Spartan3s also started their training at the age of 6-8 and underwent pretty much the same training programme as Spartan2s. Though Carter started his training later.

not true. most spartan 2 are just normal soldiers given more augmentation and no real specific training. To be frank Spartans as a program and a real creation of cybernetic soldiers from childhood should start long after Carter's war time.

Well, that's all covered in the novels. The augmentations that Spartan IIIs were given, compared to those Spartan IIs like Master Chief received, were a quantum leap in technology and capability. This was admitted by Kurt Spartan-051 himself, the man who trained them all.

Before, the augmentation process was a rather deadly process, but with new advancements in technology, the Spartan IIIs had a 100% success rate with regards to the augmentations, which is probably why it looks like such a safe and non-drama free process.

With regards to training, Kurt felt that Spartan IIs were expected to and could do the impossible, and do so alone. However, he expected that Spartan IIIs would more have to work in teams. The kind of training that Spartan IIIs endured was even more intense than what the Spartan IIs engaged in, Kurt Spartan-051 and Mendez made sure of that. He even went as far as to have them engage in more intense team oriented training. Of course, that doesn't at all mean that the original Spartan IIs aren't totally incredible in the area of teamwork.

I'd like to turn these completely wrong comments over to Optimus, as he seems to have the best grip on the fiction. You have obviously NOT read any of the novels and are talking straight out your rear. Sorry, I don't mean to be a douche, but stop making up shit, please...

OP was the spartans 2s though not trained as much and given cheaper armour due to them been expendable? that was the entire reason kurt hated the program..
He saw them as his own, hence at the end he doned there armour instead of his mark 2

Been a while ... reading them again now (well tell a lie i listen to them on the treadmill lol)
Also chill on him froz hew a newbie here.

Well, the Spartan IIIs indeed had a shorter window between actual training and actual real combat insertion, so there had to be an attempt to make up for that with more intense forms of training.

Yes, they were definitely expendable, and the Spartan III program as a whole was cheaper than the Spartan II program, that was one of its biggest selling points to some top ONI and military brass. They received less expensive Semi-Powered Infiltration Armor, instead of Mjolnir armor.

I believe the only benefits that may have even existed compared to Mjolnir may have been the camo tech. They possessed photo-reactive panels to mimic their surroundings.

They certainly weren't "regular soldiers", and they went through a ton of training. The Big difference between the III's and the II's was the II's were hand picked for very special physical, mental, and genetic superiority from all over the galaxy. The III's were not as selectively chosen, but they were still taken very young. The II's also were trained for longer and were far less expendable. The III's were only 13 in the bit of Ghosts of onyx that I read, and were made in larger numbers with less dangerous augmentations. Of course those augs were more advanced. They also had some extra "survival" augmentation that kicked in to give them that last push. If I remember correctly.

Well if you'd read Fall of Reach. you'd know that this was the final step of a process that began when these guys were just five years old, to becoming a Spartan II. And if I remember correctly, even this final step wound up killing more candidates than producing Spartans.

Carter is a Spartan 3, this is a different process to what the Spartan 2s went through.
