my only worry with this is it's content. i understand what they're aiming for. but £25 for what they're saying is half a AAA title which is what what? 4 hours? it kinda feels like a pretty tough sell. the narrative or experience would have to be like...unmissably impressive, but that's never been the case with ninja theory before so why would this be any different just by being shorter? plus it's been in development hell it seems (pun) i dunno, i'm remaining cautious.

If the game is good, 30 for around 4 hours of playtime with hopefully no repetitive filler stuff like in so many AAA games is totally fine. It hasnt been in development hell, it took so long because they announced it 6 months after they started development so they could share the process of making a game like this. There have released a ton of dev diaries on their youtube channel

It has not been in development hell actually. Being their own publisher they simply decided to make things their way and through the development they heavily documented processes and technologies aiming to simplify the creation of AAA-style games for smaller teams and budgets. The final product was as much an objective as the thinking and creation of such processes were. I'm very much looking forward to the release of this game as I've always found Ninja Theory to be quite talented and as I find everything in the creation of this game fantastic. New ways for game development, making it easier and cheaper, transparent processes with developers' diaries and many conferences to report on progresses made on the technologies used and created, DRM-Free release thanks to GOG, well thought budget with a return on investment estimated to sit around between 200k and 300k copies... I really hope it becomes a success!

Is Tameem still involved in any way? His creative direction took Devil May Cry to some dark places... Long story short we don't talk about Donte.

Yes, he's in. And dark places will be there for sure. One notable fact is that they worked with mentally ill patients and followed them during therapy sessions in an attempt to recreate how patients feel and what they hear or see when they're experiencing hallucinations or hearing voices. That part was documented too and last I heard of it the results of the recreations were to be used for medical purposes to try to better understand the symptoms these people experience and potentially help them!

i know they've documented it all, but that doesn't mean it wasn't in development hell. between the excessively long dev cycle for what they themselves say is "half a game" and one where the protagonist was completely redesigned (still dislike the new woman) as well as the entire combat system (which still looks bad), i'd say things wern't going quite so smoothly. but we're splitting hairs. if this thing is 4 hours and only "good" (like their previous titles), £25 i far too much of an asking price . this needs to be substantially better than anything they've ever made to warrant the short play time and price.

The development of the game must have been really hard but i just wouldn't exactly call it development hell. Also radical changes like that happen all the time, we just don't see it because most games don't show that much that early in development. The directional combat was interesting but they clearly didn't have the resources to pull it off in a high quality level, so a more fast paced traditional combat system was a good idea. Why do you think the combat looks bad btw? The new combat clips look way better than the early gameplay video. My only complain was in the last gameplay video, enemies took too long to attack but that could be fixed by launch. And Senua looks more like the actress to make facial capture easier. Unless you mean you don't like the new costume. I personaly like the new look better but the original was pretty good too

I definitely hope this is gonna be a step up from ninja theory's past games but im cautious too because trying to do AAA quality games with a small budget could turn out very mediocre results. That's why i really hope the game isn't longer than 5-6 hours because they just don't have the budget to make a long game like this with tons of variety. And I definitely don't want to see repetitive content in a game like this

the excessively long dev cycle for what they themselves say is "half a game"
Announced August 2014 while there was absolutely nothing, released August 2017, I have a hard time calling it excessive. ;) You can add to that that they were less than 10 guys working on it at the beginning, before expanding to about 15 and last year a few more but still less than twenty. That's a small team considering the ambitions!

and one where the protagonist was completely redesigned (...) i'd say things wern't going quite so smoothly.
Marketing material began while they still were in pre-production and they said many times that a lot of things could change, but they still wanted people to follow the changes that were made, especially to make people realize how hard and unstable a game development can be. But things weren't always smooth that's for sure! :)

I have really enjoyed previous Ninja Theory games. They have always managed to deliver a both cohesive and beautiful art direction. Always a bit short on narrative and innovative gameplay mechanics, that's true, but the backbone has always been strong. The same DNA that Heavenly Sword, Enslaved and even DmC shared will be present on this one, I do not expect them to surprise us on this level, but I hope the development process inspires other small teams, it would really boost up creativity and diversity on the market!

And just as a side note, I think it would only be fair to congratulate the launching policy of the game. Yes we haven't seen it yet but after the many blatant rip-offs we've seen lately, a 25£/30$/DRM-Free launch coupled with a fair and public statement saying "be careful, do not consider it the full beefy AAA experience you might expect but something modest" is greatly welcome! ;)

I wonder if these are from pc. looks very sharp and jagged free compared to the trailer.

well anyways, I had my suspicions about the game length and character diversity after the wave of vidocs. considering that Senua has been the main focus for all of the videos for 3 years now. so it had me thinking. It looks pretty interesting to pass up. i guess we'll just have to wait and see for the reviews to set in.

I'm a little surprised that this is a digital exclusive. retail stores just got no love from ninja theory.

Half the game can be interpreted many ways trim the fat and you have a better assassins creed game and that's half a game. AAA games vary significantly in length so little use in guessing the lengh i will say that of late I wish AAA games were half the length.

They are trying to bring back the medium sized game that the market killed because nobody wanted it? Stroke of pure genius!

Love the bit at the end where the guy begs for preorders as well. Show me that your friggin game is worth it and maybe i will. Then again i have 0 faith in ninja Theory.

IF they had said something like "we ditched the big open world aspect and the excessive setpieces, focused on a few tight and focused gameplay elements and then added the high quality narrative aspect to keep the budget down while still delivering an engaging experience" i'd be all for it. But somehow i imagine that the game will be every bit as shitty as your run of the mill Rise of the Tomb Raider :P
