GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

We have been so busy lately that we failed to provide you with some more Hitman content. April brought a new mission set in Italy, in a beautiful and colorful Mediterranean town and we've finally found a bit of time to capture a nice little stroll there. With the release yesterday of the Marrakesh mission, we can also give you a sneak peek at this brand new level packed with people. The player is less free to wander around than in Italy but there are still tons of things to find and those who like exploration and perfect crimes should be in for a treat. The episodic aspect is still a bit hurtful to the narrative component of the game, but since gameplay mechanics work, it is not that big of a deal really. It is after all very nice to see that the series has indeed gone back to its roots.

"The episodic aspect is still a bit hurtful to the narrative component of the game" "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important."
Overarching story was hurtful and out of place in blood money, and same applies here. It's all about individual contracts and their background stories. Seriously, I couldn't care less about that antagonist and his mission they keep foreshadowing.

I'm probably one of the few people that don't mind the episodic nature of this game. Don't get me wrong, I don't want all future games to work this way. But with Hitman, it works rather well.

Sorry, this game looks really great, but are they serious about that newspaper texture?

you're quoting Carmack right?
his minimalistic approach to video game stories was fit for purpose back when games such as the original Doom were popular. but have we not come a long way since then?
TLOU and Dragon age and the like are reminders that story-telling in videogames often works more effectively than in movies and also affords game designers ample opportunities not entirely attainable in the movie industry.

Indeed I am. Masters of Doom by David Kushner, a very interesting read that would make a great movie adaptation. And despite the dated quote (this was back when they HAD to put plot in porn to pass it as something that has artistic value to avoid bans or something) it still holds true. The Last of Us that gets its ass kissed so much, or, say, David Cage movies are only impressive because they're game movies, where people are not used to good story. It's nothing amazing if their stories are compared to and judged as cinema.

This sounds generalizing. It's not a one way evolution.
Don't misunderstand me, I love me a good story in videogames and in certain cases it was the single thing that motivated me to play, but story shouldn't be a CRUCIAL component of the game, unless that is all it has to offer. Hitman is, first and foremost, about assassination sandbox that rewards exploration and creativity. It's absolutely not a story game, and that is fine is what I'm saying.

This guy gets it.

To be honest I still haven't explored everything there is in Sapienza, because I rarely have both time and motivation to play, so I'm already lagging behind. If this was a full release game it would end up on my long backlong of started but not finished games.
