The Sony press conference barely started and we already get some videos. Let's start with the most important: Home! You could also name it: Sony's sexy reply to Xbox Live. Smart, really smart move! Update: Added quite a few images.
Eh, looks ok. I don't care about the virtual chat room aspect though, I do like the bowling and pool minigames. Probably have to pay for new items through PSN as well.

You can get items from games you play too to further customize your avatar.
Nothing really new about it. Nice idea, but it will be more popular when the price point reaches a level that attracts mid to late teens. Oh and old men to lure them into sex traps.
The virtual chat room approach is completely insignificant. It's a fun distraction at the most. I think people are over reacting when they get defensive about this supposedly copying Mii, because it goes beyond that and loses the "avatar" idea in the process.
My mum could build her own Mii on my console and bowl away with her persona, whereas this she wouldn't even bother with.
It's a different system for a much narrower audience - the *real gamers* only - and as such it'll have to do more than be a strollable "menu" married with virtual chat.
However, I suspect it will do more in time aswell. There's a MMORPG mentality to be tapped where you have people sitting around the town square fletching arrows just talking to eachother. There's a sense of progression and meaning there though, and if they can recreate that atmosphere with this somehow, it's gonna be a casual MMORPG/menu system that is UNLIKE the Mii system - not competition! - that'll be unique and really cool.
So chill out, Wii people, and perhaps more importantly loosen up sony people. This isn't about "owning" anyone at their own game, this is about Sony doing something fresh, new and potentially interesting.
Or potentially insignificant. *shrugs* Future knows, it's just incredibly tight lipped!
I'm sure some people will love this, but as far as I'm concerned Sony is missing the point--I just want good, unique game experiences. I don't want another Second Life/Myspace.
The only thing that sounds promising is the party system for online games - I hope they do a good implementation of the feature. The rest is too gimmicky and seems like overkill and completely unnecessary.
..to anyone who says this is crap, pointless, and will only be good for a short while....you might aswell say sites like bebo and myspace are a waste od time...this is what home is...its a 3D virtual myspace - with instant text and voice messaging ...multiplayer games, the ability to share media...i think the idea is awesome.
obviously not everybody like social sites like myspace...but to say this wont be very popular probably isnt a wise statement...look at myspace it has over 120 MILLION users...i know that there arnt 120 million ps3s, but the vast majority of ps3 owners who are connected to the internet will try the new home service - and im sure many with stick with it.
what XBL's missing badly is "Being FREE", "OUTA CHARGES"... you know while we have to pay for everything on XBL like avatars and themes and maybe soon game updates (just kidding) :D, PS3 offers a free online system which there are more than just free avatars and themes. I mean it's time for MS to let people use XBL for free. it's not fare we pay for playing online while we paid for the console already! and for the HOME part I believe it'll be more entertaining than XBL...
I expect more reports on tv about people telling stupid stuff like "Yes, you can be someone you would always wanted to be." Ugh I hate that.
Nonetheless the trailer makes me want to 'play' this now. If it really constantly will get added possibilities.. ooooh! With trailers of new games showing around that world, fascinating.

Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)

Still, it looks pretty cool. A lot more interesting than Mii Parade, thats for sure :)
Awesome.
I'm really looking forward to it, let's hope it has voice enabled.
PS: Now everyone will go into a "omg sony copied mii!!!" mode. ;)
