Dark Energy Digital has announced that Microsoft will publish their game Hydrophobia exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade. The third-person survial game should be available later this year. Press release, images and a trailer after the jump.
Press release:
Dark Energy Digital, a British developer and publisher of video games specializing in digital delivery, is delighted to announce the upcoming action-adventure blockbuster “HydrophobiaTM” will be published exclusively on Xbox LIVE® Arcade.
“HydrophobiaTM” has been developed using Dark Energy Digital’s own “InfiniteWorldsTM” game creation system, which uses bespoke procedural technology. This allows for a AAA retail quality experience for a tiny fraction of the usual file size, pushing back the boundaries for downloadable games.
The game will also be the first outing for Dark Energy Digital’s revolutionary “HydroEngineTM” technology – the first true fluid dynamics engine for games. “HydroEngineTM” models flowing water in real-time, a true physics simulation with emergent behavior which affects objects and characters in the scene with jaw-dropping authenticity.
“HydrophobiaTM” is set in the near future when the world has become massively over-populated, and takes place onboard the “Queen of the World”, a city sized ship which tours the globe and is home to the wealthy elite. An epic backstory reveals the rise of Malthusian politics as all eyes look to NanoCell, one of the Founding Fathers of the great vessel, who has vowed to develop the technology which will feed the burgeoning human population.
“Hydrophobia is set to be a trailblazing title which expands the spectrum of what is possible on Xbox LIVE Arcade. HydroEngine delivers a gameplay experience unlike anything you have seen before and, with awesome graphics and an epic backstory to boot, Hydrophobia really is the full package” – Mark Coates, Producer, Microsoft Game Studios.

This is looking good. I have been watching this for a while!
Though the female protagonist leads me to believe there will be terrible writing to compliment it-- Never the less my eye is on you!
And the bastard just kept on working! Aaaaah! I eventually did sell it (to someone planning to mod it, which made me feel pretty good about unloading it on his unappreciating pirating arse) and got myself an elite. As far as I know, it's still out there....
...working.
I'm on my 5th 360 and they have always been standing completely still on the floor with 30cm air-space on all sides, above and behind. And obviously my living room is quite large and cool, its not like i live in Dubai with 50 degree C heat.
The fact is, 360's just seem to break down randomly, as if on a timer.
Maybe that's part of the horror aspect... fear of drowning.
