Sony and Game Republic released on the japanese PSN a quite nice demo of Folk's Soul, aka Folklore for us. While waiting for a video later today, enjoy these 74 images showing a very good artistic design. Update: Video available.
I think those slide-show like sequences are just placeholders for CG-movies ... those would have been too big for such a demo (even without them it's 1 GB) in my opinion
Some of the enviroments and the main character don't look all that complete (demo!) but the art direction and all those other characters look darn right fantastic.
Well I just finished the demo and I have NO IDEA what just happened. This game is super bizarre! I think the, um, tree that tended the bar told me something significant so I ran into a forest where imp people tried to kill me. After sucking imp powers out of them I could soon enough roll boulders and stuff and before I knew it I was back in the bar yelling "RANDOM KANJI THINGY!!!!" and the demo ended. :O
It looks incredible though. It's like Eternal Sonata had forests and flowers and this game was like "forests and flowers huh? I'LL SHOW YOU FUCKING FORESTS AND FLOWERS!" *brain damage from colour and fauna overload*

that was a boring video :s although very nice models, and thank the lord, real time combat, makes a change to the usual JRPG tripe, still not my thing tho
Actually, the trailer contains most of the cardboard cutout scenes found in the demo, but in the trailer they're proper animated cutscenes. I'm gonna have to give Lafiel's assessment a nod, because I half suspect the trailer sequences will be what's in the final game.
Just watched the HD video and I gotta say I'm blown away. The only thing better than the visuals is the sound--or lack thereof. I can't stand dialogue in videogames. If this is what the final product will be like I'm onboard.
I believe the final product is supposed to be dubbed through and through with English as the primary language. Then again, all I have seen of the game so far has been one trailer, the GDC gameplay, and the Japanese demo.

In a good way though. Good brain damage.
It is a bit mad, I wasn't quite so confounded as you though :o
I guess foreign languages will do that to a person.

[i'm looking forward to this]
I'm really taken to the panel-based cutscenes and prefer them over CG--they're slick and sexy, instead of the rubbery feeling CG cutscenes give off.
Game looks gorgeous. Kenshin is impressed, thanks :p
