EA milking their franchise fully as usual. Why could this tournament not just be included as a small part of Fifa 09 for instance? Even if the gameplay is good, it still becomes boring playing the same tournament. Fifa becomes boring quickly enough with a wide range of tournaments.
Graphics and animations are good as usual, but nothing new and its still half a game.

My money's with Brazil ;)

...Oh wait.

Joking apart though, I fancy Croatia to possibly do some damage. Even without Eduardo, they have a decent team.

Then you have to look at Italy, France etc.

Just so that we stay somewhat on topic, I dislike Fifa entirely and think that Pes is a trillion times better :)

Nope. England will not be on the Euro Cup. That was a great tragedy for them. As I am from Russia which by the way will be there instead of England (3rd place in our group and second was Russia) I will be buying this game just to at least virtually let our team win the first place for the last 30-40 years (we won Euro Cup once long ago).

I agree that England been a joke for quite some time now, but I got a good feeling about Fabio Capello, if that doesn't work than nothing will...

Regarding the game, being myself PES fan who just got borred after last 3 versions of PES became same crap as EA does. Konami made so much money with PES I expected much more out of PES07 and 08, its a joke. EA deserves some credit, I tried Fifa RTWC, which was a joke, Fifa WC, joke, then Fifa07 was getting on the right track, and Fifa 08 surprisingly is pretty good! I can see Fifa09 being pretty good if they continue improving like they did, instead of milking it like they been for the last decade. The presentation in PES, graphics, lack of licensing (recently its just been less and less) and lame commentary makes borring now, sorry. It took some time for me to get used to Fifa as I havn't played it for quite some time (since Fifa99 which was great!, I played allot of ISS and PES too when it WAS good), but now I enjoy Fifa08 allot, I get more games online, my roster is updated with real roster during transfer period, some nice gamemodes, online mode is much better polished than PES with leauges etc, challange modes are fun, cool mode called Pro Mod where you control only one player in third person.

Konami needs to pull their shit together and make PES the way we all expect it. I don't believe it if someone tells me that when they put the first next-gen version of PES into their 360 they didn't think it looked horrible, and please don't come with 'gameplay is better'. If I want gameplay I would go back to ISS, with next-gen system I expect next-gen game, and PES07 and 08 didn't deliver, sorry.

So saing that I think UEFA Euro 2008 might be pretty good, though I agree it should have been part of Fifa08, but lets be honest at the end of the day its business as usual...

Fifa08 for tha win, yes I said it! :P lol ;)

It's also worth mentioning Zeuxis that PES 2009 SHOULD be vastly different to the 2 previous next-gen installments.

Konami admitted that their lack of numbers and organistion within the PES development contributed to what, even I as a massive and loyal PES fan can admit, has been a relatively poor attempt of next-gen so far.

So expect a better development team for PES 2009, which should produce a truly superb next-gen game that the series deserves.

Glad to hear that blmbox, hope they keep their word.

I played PES08 at work and home on PC, decided not to buy it, so we'll see if they deserve my money on PES09, I really hope they will as I don't like making EA richer lol ;)

Lol, no-one likes making EA richer! Except EA, of course...

But as i've said, even I can admit that the next-gen versions haven't lived up to the name. To put it simply, they've slacked. They kept making promises and admitting that their previous installment wasn't good enough, which got me wondering... Is it ever going to be 'good enough'?

So i'll believe it when I see it. Not that I won't buy it though... i'm flipping addicted to PES! :D

lol I won't keep my hopes too high so I don't get my expectations too high :)

I highly recomend Fifa08 though, not as a weekend play, you need more time to get used to it and sure it has some flaws but so does PES. When you try it don't compare it to other Fifa or PES, just play it like another football game, as if you would play GT and Forza. It's like when you start playing a new version before you get used to new pase of game.
I spend like a day just trying to learn player tricks in Fifa08, they are quite hard to master, but even knowing only few of them it makes playing a match more fun, rewarding and entertaining. I really like the ProMode!

It's not as if we deserved to go into Euro 2008. The qualification campaing was just plain AWFUL. If FIFA 08 was anything to go by, this might not be half bad.

Fifa08 next gen > PES next gen.

The captain's armband mode on this sounds interesting, I believe it takes the be a pro format one stage further but haven't heard any details, I'm hoping you play in qualifying as one player with the aim of doing well enough in those matches to win the captain's armband, then you play the finals proper as that player, would be nice, be a pro is interesting but playing one off matches in Fifa08 is a bit tedious :)

Being Scottish, you could say that my view is biased but I definitely think the exclusion of England will be no bad thing and make the tournament more interesting. Less of Ian Wright sitting beside Lineker and discussing why England should win it, they better not replace that with discussing how well England would have done if they had got there. Probably inevitable though. Im tipping the Netherlands to do well.

If Croatia wants to do well they better put more effort into it then they did in a recent friendly they played v my country (the Netherlands).. We beat them at their turf quite easily with 0-3.. Just because they beat England doesn't make them favorites yet I think..

I think the winner of Euro 2008 will come out of 'our' group.. Netherlands, Italy and France in 1 group, it's crazy really.. Or else Germany.. Those countries are the favorites I think.. If we can beat either Italy or France I think we can go all the way.. I just hope we don't run into Portugal later on, because that somehow always turns ugly and we never seem able to beat them (same with Italy actually, so I guess we have to beat France in our group, next to Romania which is a must-win).. We have never been knocked out in the groupstage, so I have good hope, but it's gonna be real hard this time (same for Italy and France, 1 of 3 favorites will be out early)..

Btw, is England really not in this game? They should be out, but it will really hurt EA with sales I think because the UK is usually the biggest market for these kind of games..

On behalf of the Fifa vs PES debate btw, I still rate PES much much higher.

Don't get me wrong Fifa has come on leaps and bounds in this gen, more so than PES in fact, but the gameplay in PES is just a trillion times better.

Sure, Fifa has impressive visuals (although the players' faces are embarassing) and have more game modes and it looks more professional in general. But, the gameplay is still awful. I can't play Fifa for more than 10 minutes without being bored. PES on the other hand, I could play for hours.

I do think the 'be a pro mode' is brilliant though; it's something revolutionary for the football genre and I really enjoyed it.

This isn't a biased opinion - I owned both games, but have sold Fifa 08 and still play PES most days. :)

Yes PES' gameplay is awesome, it's wonderful how they managed to keep the same gameplay from the PS1 version, perfect passes, pass to wing, cutback, shoot, goal, repeat ad infinitum, now that's tedious.

I played PES from PS1 days through to PES5 on PS2 and nothing changed, hell they barely added anything to ML since PES3, it's an insult to gamers, Konami turned into EA with their rehashes of the same old version with just one or two things added, oh joy they added the Stanley Matthews dribble, well that's worth $70 then........

As for Konami's attempts at a next gen version, what next gen version? At least EA went and created a new engine, new game modes, new simulation style of play to remove the arcade gameplay.........

Yeah, Fifa did create a new engine bla bla bla. But, what use is it when it doesn't even come close to the quality of PES? Gameplay is ultra boring in Fifa, and that is the essence of a game. No point having all these game modes if the game still sucks to play, which Fifa does even despite having a new engine. It's an improvement, but it don't come close to PES.

Besides PES is having a complete re-shuffle in terms of their development, which should make PES even better.

PES > FIFA... foreeeevveerrrr!

Quality of PES? There is no quality in PES, awful graphics, awful physics engine, lack of licenses, awful commentary, awfully shallow master league, need I go on?

Yes PES is having a re-shuffle, because the next-gen versions were collectively and universally panned for being the garbage it is.

"PES > FIFA... foreeeevveerrrr!" that just shows what a delusional fanboy you are, no game beats another game forever, I played ISS/PES/WE from PS1 - PES5 on PS2, for all that time IMO Fifa didn't touch it, then PES stopped developing in any significant sense and Fifa took over from UCL 360 - Fifa08 360, I'm not a delusional fool so I won't make idiotic comments like "Fifa > PES forever" as there's as much chance that EA will revert to form and stop making progress with Fifa and Konami will see sense and actually make a good next gen version of PES.
