PS3

Namco-Bandai just announced the release this Autumn of Katamari Forever on the PS3. Nothing really new in term of Gameplay, but 1080p visuals and some new graphical features.

don't tell me. The game engine that on ps2, looked like a PSX game running, is so outdatted now that made some people nod in awe that they use the same engine for a HD title... that the only way they can "polish a turd" engine and not making a new one, is using some ugly ass filters to acheive another artistic approach?

Geez, that will do the trick, won't it?

hmm, I can't say I like this artistic design, just something that doesn't feel like it works with this title, I still might end up getting it anyway, enjoyed the 360 cersion even if they did rip us off abit.

Enough already. The first Katamari game was fun and fresh, the second game was still somewhat fun but it started to get old, after that they just suck balls. The first game was fun because i had never seen anything like it before, it had some really quirky music and art and a new idea for gameplay but you can't just repackage and sell the same damn game 5 times!

the thing about this game is that it contains the stages from katamari 1...as well as the music. which is great for people like me who live in the UK, since we never got that game...

anyway, i like the look of it, the toon shaders make it look a lot better, but at the end of the day, this is an artistic choice and has been since the first katamari. could the king of all cosmos be an ultra realistic character with lifelike textures and proportions? sure, but then you'd lose all of the quirkyness.

the game's great, it may have run it's course a little...at least going by the crappy 360 version. but this is the first game, the one said to be the best of the bunch, and finally, i get to play it. in 1080p remix style no less. i cant really argue with that. especially if its sold on the cheap.

KORN: the thing is just that if you have played ONE of the katamari games you've played em all. There's hardly any difference between them.

What he said.

Besides, no one is asking for a super, ultra realistic remake of the Katamari series, just that Namco sits back and actually give the game a worthy update.

Think Pacman CE (if you have not at least played the demo, then you don't deserve to own a game console) kind of update. Retains all the charm and feel of the original, but with some serious refinements and twists that truly updates both the gameplay and the graphics to make it an instant, modern classic, without sacrificing anything that made it Pacman in the first place.

If Namco can manage to do that for a game made almost 30 years ago, then they have no excuse for not being able to do the same for a game made just five years ago.

Much like Mister Driller, the only thing Namco is doing with Katamari, is milking the series for all it is worth, as long as there are still people around insane enough to keep buying into it. So we wind up five years almost to the month after the original Katamari was released, getting the same game, with zero updates outside of some filter overlays. As a fan of the original, I'm actually insulted Namco would even bother . . . especially when I can just whip out the original game (I still have the disc), and play it on my PS3 using the built-in backwards compatibility, and get about the same results.

gameplay doesnt change, true, and i said that the series has pretty much run its course seeing as the 360 version was terrible. BUT, i think it's pretty understandable to be excited about the title seeing as its considerd the best one in the series and seeing as it never reached UK shores. i understand if your a yank and have the game anyway, but we never got it for some reason. and now i get to play the remixed version, with additional stages, a new "story", remixed music, and graphical filters (that i actually think look great)

as i said originally, there really isnt anything there i can complain about.
