Xbox 360 PS3

The official fansite of Mirror's Edge - EA and Dice's first person action/parkour game - releases the two first images of the game. We don't know yet if they're real screenshots or target renders, but it looks quite awesome anyway.

there is no WAY those are real in-game or even in-engine shots. but they look good whatever they are.

I laughed when I saw the helicopter SHOOTING at the guy. Did the army suddenly decide that parkour doers are terrorists or something?

The only thing making me question the pictures is the lighting. The geometry and textures seem like they could well be in a game.

I think it´s in real time, or even like the in game. In first person view, it would be possible on next gen consoles. Looking forward for it

Why not? Just has to be perfectly tuned color and contrast settings, the polygons themselves dont have to be so numerous, the buildings probably consist of less than 100 each. And the textures on the buildings are somewhat non-existant too except for the windows :)

It's not a guy, its Faith, the asian female with face paint.
And if I remember right, she is some sort of an assassin, or agent thats why the chopper is shooting.

'Target renders'? Please. I think 'concept renders' would be a more accurate term to use.

I don't see why they couldn't be realtime. Textures aren't amazing or anything. Just an extremely bright use of colors. I like it.

While i am exited to see another parkour game i can't say i'm too thrilled about it being an fps, part of what made assassins creed great (in my opinion please don't start a flame war) was the amazing animation and the incredible views while climbing around the cities.
I just don't understand why they had to go for a fps perspective in this one, it just puts too many limitations on the player and the experience.
But since i am a big fan of dice and their previous creations i am confident that they will make a good game here.

*tinfoil* unless this is something EA forced them to make *end tinfoil* :)

Like i said before, the lighting is what makes these pictures look questionable. I doubt we will see ambient occlusion in the final game.

edit: Also there's absolutely no aliasing in these pictures.

I found a really nice article on the game courtesy of edge magazine : http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_conte...

Edit : It seems the decision to make it an fps game was a very deliberate move, they are trying to create a more realistic way to portray the fps viewpoint.

It's not the poly-count or textures even, it's how it's rendered. It's not just the color and contrast since it has that straight out of a 3d package render look to it. Looks great, but FP? Pffff...

I used to say things like that, and then I played Bioshock. After Bioshock I'm thinking anything is possible if the developers are serious enough about it.

Almost everyone above me is an idiot. It doesn't matter if it's in game or not--all press release shots are photoshopped. If you want to argue about graphics, how about waiting until you see some HD video, perhaps showing someone actually playing the game.

Look at all that billboard space, its ripe for some in game advertising. You watch, this game will be rife with it. Especially being EA.

Would be absolutely brilliant if it was in-game.

Shall have to keep tabs on this one - after reading the links, the game looks really innovative.

Is this a 2008 release?

I have such high hopes for this game.. I don't doubt for a minute DICE has something good going on here.. even if it doesn't end up living up to everyone's expectations I still strongly believe there will be plenty of things to enjoy.. who the hell needs amfetamin when adrenalin is pumping like a madman through your veins just by thinking about getting constantly chased around, much less when playing the actual game ^^

Is it only me who found it more exhilarating running from the soldiers than actually entering combat with them on AC? Feels like DICE is aiming at utlising that feeling and amplifying it ALOT :D Yummy...
