They're already doing that and it costs more than a new game, so it really begs the question, which method is really milking the customer more?

I like the character design. I hate that most of the tracks are just covers. I hate the price. Ultimately, not for me. We need more rhythm games, though. The Wii probably has the most potential for rhythm games, but most developers are too lazy to implement any motion controls more complex than a wrist jerk.

To synce: there is big progress on the whole cover thing, 36 out of 49 confirmed main songs (not bonuses) are originals. Stones, Metallica, Iron Maiden, ROCP, GnR, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage against the machine, Sex Pistols, Muse, Beastie Boys and i pass other lesser ones are performing their songs.

Too bad Black Sabbath or ZZTop didn't have the same treatment :/ (lack of DAT recordings ?)

They reunited the Sex Pistols because they were missing the master tapes from a song. They can't do that for every single band I guess.

Yep, it allows you to play through the game just using 1 instrument.
I'm getting rock band instead of this one.

well considering the fact that this series has never focused more on graphics then gameplay, thats something very small.

oh and for you people who think rock band will be better, your wrong, at least in the guitar sections of rock band. its been said by many people who have tried the game out that guitar hero has more tracks focused on guitar. and if u look at some comparisons they made of one of the songs from rock band and guitar hero III (the same song is on both rock band and guitar heros track list) u can see how much different they are, as guitar hero III is more challenging in the guitar parts as rock band is mostly good for its drums.

they're both going to be awesome just dont expect to have as much fun with the guitar part for rock band if u just like the guitar.

GH3 has 70 songs including bonus tracks, Rock Band has 45 songs PLUS bonus tracks. Just as guitar games on their own GH3 will probably be a little better because of the greater chalenge, however they did say for Rock Band that they'll have songs with crazy guitar in DLC. Also with Rock Band you can always get the drums and mic to have a totally new and better experience...

I'm getting Guitar Hero instead of Rock Band, because I need a bit of challenge. It's not a lot of fun when you're playing a brand new track on hard for the first time and you get an effortless four star rating. There's hardly any single player replay value if the songs are far too easy, no matter how good the songs are. That's what ruined the GH2 DLC too. I got a few packs because I liked the songs and I was tired of the old GH2 content. I was rather disappointed to find songs like Smoke on the Water and Killer Queen incredibly boring to play. That was a sad waste of some good MS points...

I can't wait for GH3 to come out - especially the coop career sounds great. I'll prolly get Rock Band too, though. But challenge is what I want as well, even though I haven't passed Jordan yet (sigh).

Try the new indie DLC pack, I think it's the best yet. Only one of them is easy (the Atreyu tune), but Trivium - Detonation is one of the best songs in the whole game in my opinion. That's certainly not an instant 5* and neither is Bury the Hatchet (unless you're a bit more than familiar with Scorehero). Oh, and challenging bass tracks on Detonation and Bury the Hatchet as well.

Edit: That's on expert, but I'd suppose hard won't be a letdown either. Anyway it's worth a look definitely if you're looking for something to play before GH3 hits the stores.

The 360 version of GHII introduced me to this series and I love it. Sadly im not willing to pay £40 for new songs and online play, which should have been included in GHII for 360.
Instead im giving this one a miss and will opt for Rock Band, which seems to offer something different and hopefully will have plenty of DLC in the future that is priced fairly unlike GHII's insanely high prices...

Rock Band will (supposedly) offer new DLC much sooner than GH3. They've already announced 2 FULL albums that will be available mere weeks after release date.

Taken from IGN
And, of course, there will be new downloadable songs every week for an entire year to help grow your Rock Band library.

this game is more challenging the guitar freaks, as there are more buttons for guitar hero. and guitar hero has much better songs anyways.
