Microsoft releases four new images of Halo Wars. It looks great, and from what we've already seen of the game back at last E3, it seems like the game is on track to honour its prestigious license. We didn't expect any less from Ensemble Studios, to be honest.

Nice graphics, too.
It has quite a pleasing look. And boy does the battle in the last pic look intense!
Can't wait to play it.
The graphics look spectacular!
If they can pull of the controls with this on the rts it will be a sure fire win for RTS fans... i really hope they also roll it to pc eventually as well because i know some rts people no matter how good it is on rts wont run it...
but those graphics and the entire look are great, that last battle is WICKED
It's not like there's a shortage of great RTS on PC's anyway. Starcraft 2 plz.

But I understand it's not about quality anymore, it's just about making money.. MS probably thinks they can make more money on the Xbox 360 with it (which is probably right), and offcourse they hope this will make the Xbox 360 look a bit more interesting again by adding another Xbox 360 exclusive game.. And it being a Halo game problably also has to do with it they think it belongs on the Xbox 360.. But they will most likely release this for PC a year later anyway, just like they did with every other Halo game before.. And offcourse it will flop again on PC because all of that, just like every other Halo game before.. PC gamers are not stupid, and I think PC RTS gamers even more so, they are not interested in games a year late.. Besides all that there's plenty of very strong RTS competition on the PC, Starcarft 2, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, just to mention a few..
Back on topic, im shocked at how good this looks. The main thing for me will be the controls so hopefully they release a demo before release so we can see if they've really nailed RTS on console by developing from the ground up for 360 rather than porting over a PC game like all the other attempts so far.
As for an eventual PC version, I would have said it's possible but considering it's built for 360 and the control's are designed in that way, I think it would end up being a similar case to a PC port to 360, aka not up to the usual standards.
.......
aka not up to the usual standards.
But if you've never played at those higher standards on PC it would still be good enough for you I guess.. That's how FPS worked it's way to the consoles aswell, people that never played those games on the PC don't know any better so they think it's the best on the consoles.. Being a oldskool PC gamer myself, I am used to those higher standards though.. And I will never give up on those, even if it means paying more for hardware.. I don't care aslong as I can afford it..
And having owned a Xbox and then a Xbox 360 for 4,5 years now showed my again that consoles to me remain nothing but cheap restricted versions of a PC, in all sorts of ways.. It's that they offer certain exclusive games you cannot play on anything else, otherwise I would never buy one.. Hook your PC up to the TV, connect a controller, and viola, you have the same thing as a gameconsole that offers much better quality and can do a lot more..
To bad the mass market usually seems to choose price over quality though.. But what makes that ironic is that a lot of consolesgamers that say PC gaming is doomed because it's to expensive probably spend the same ammount or even more money on their consoles and all it's accessoires, games, and premium DLC etc, then I do on my PC and it's games.. Infact I've calculated that I've spent about 1000 euro on everything Xbox 360 related in the last 2 years, and only about 600 euro on PC hardware and PC games.. And games on my PC look already better now.. Go figure..
PC gaming bordering on death? I don't think so aslong as it keeps the best FPS, RTS, and MMO games arround like it did for the last 20 years already.. It's also consolegamers thinking their console(s) are the best that just need to smarten up a bit.. We're all victims of the stupid exclusive deals on all these different platforms that force us to buy all of them.. And if that results in certain games not being released on the best platform available for that type of game then that's just sad and stupid..
I don't see the problem with this sort of entry into the console market. I'd almost rather that Ensemble concentrated their efforts on pulling off the console version, than bothering with a PC port. Lets face it, if this does come to PC's, there's a good chance that it will have suffered the effects of being ported over from a console. Let them worry about Age of Empires IV next, and let the console-only crowd get something unique in their library.
2008 doesn't lack in quality software though, on any platform. It's too early to be writing death certificates.
The Xbox 360, I spent 300 euro on the system itself (400 - 100 for the old Xbox), +/- 150 for extra's suchs as an extra wireless controller + 2 play&charge kits etc, bought 7 full games for a total of +/- 400 euro, Xbox Live Gold 2 years is 120 euro, and I've spent about 60 euro on DLC (arcadegames and extra's).. Infact, that makes +/- 1030, not 1000, my bad..
Still, PC gaming for me is cheaper.. I sell my old PC hardware for reasonable prices regularly so that upgrading doesn't cost a fortune.. If you wait to long with upgrading your old hardware is worth shit anymore.. Just like my old Xbox with 8 games was worth nothing anymore in 2006, sold it for just 100 euro's.. I sold my last PC videocard (a 7900GS) for 150 euro, the one I have now (8800 GTS 320MB) cost me 270, so that's only 120 euro's for that upgrade.. Etc..
Consolegaming is probably cheaper on the long term, if you keep playing the same console for more then 4-5 years, or hardly buy any games etc.. But that doesn't really interest me as I always want highend gaming with good graphics etc, and after 4-5 years any piece of hardware incl. a console is just to obsolete for that.. I'll most likely sell my Xbox 360 again when MS comes out with a new Xbox in 2009/2010 orso, and hopefully it will be worth more then a 100 bucks by then (I think it will because the 360 is wanted more then the 1st Xbox)..
Meanwhile my PC will keep getting upgrades on a yearly basis to always be highend (atm it's a E6600, 2GB, 8800GTS 320MB).. Next upgrade will most likely be to a new Intel 45nm CPU (probably a E8400, or maybe even a Q9450 when prices drop a bit), and a new Nvidia 9000 series videocard somewhere 2nd half of 2008..
i cannot wait to get this gem!
