PS3

Sony released these images of Heavy Rain, to be released on Playstation 3. They were in the same batch as some older GC08 images, but I don't think we've seen these before.

That looks very nice. Hopefully this game holds it together a bit better than Fahrenheit.

In addition to Yakuza 2 and 3, Heavy Rain is also one of my reasons to buy a PS3. This game is getting beautiful.

I dunno, im still to be impressed, the outdoor environments look very flat and stale, very much like a typical game environment. Indoors has some nice lighting effects and better detail but it still feels a bit stale. The character models aswell seem a bit sharp and lifeless, they don;t even come close to the quality of the MGS4 characters.
Theres just something completely lifeless about the game that i can't qute get into words.
Maybe by the time they finish it will hold together a bit more but right now it's a real mish-mash of quality.

In fairness to vegettossj5`s comments, I do see whare he`s coming from. This is the first Playstation 3 game that shows no need for any AA lol. It`s so smooth to look at and, yes, the screens could`ve been doctored to some degree, but just look at the guys shirt in picture 2...it`s so smooth and overall the atmosphere looks incredible to say the least!!.

This one should give Alan Wake a run for his money, but add Remedys next title to this bad boy and you`ve got a concoction of amazingness IMO.

Well, it's between this and Killzone 2. But neither of them are out yet, so I don't think they should even be in consideration at this point. Games have too much potential to change, visually, in the interim between now and release.

Also, as good looking as these pics are, they're not the best ones of Heavy Rain. Check out the GDC '08 trailer for a more flattering representation of this game's graphical splendor.

I hope it adopts the same kind of QTE from fahrenheit I wouldn't complain to much if it was just press x and o but fahrenheit controls were visceral and intuitive because most if not all the command prompts took place on the dual sticks and it all worked so well.

I have the same question. Most of what I saw of gameplay reminded me of those quick time events from Shenmue and the old Dragon's Lair games.

you can always see bad textures in ps3 games due to the 256mb video ram.

its his opinion...just like that is yours, and I disagree with it completely...

Anyway, far more than the graphics, this seems more ambitious than any of the other games mentioned in this thread...

I'm always a sucker for games with realistic good looking trees and lots of them in one place. I hope every part of the game is as detailed as that neighborhood screenshot

No real point in getting into a debate on what the best graphics are on a console so far, is there? Although to state that this and Killzone are the two benchmarks is load of bollocks, pardon my bluntness.

It's a question of taste. Personally, I look at a game like Banjo Kazooie, and to me that game is blowing this one out of the water visually. It seems to me that too much attention was spent on the rendering of realistic faces on certain models in the game, while everyone else will look as if they've been to the plastic surgeon that isn't very good at their job. A stark contrast to most other things going on. It's fair enough having one or two highly detailed models in a room with moderate detail, but with a game like Banjo (just an example, so don't get yer knickers in a twist to anyone wanting to pick holes) that detailing has to be consistent throughout. It would seem that a lot of people now have some weird fetish for visuals that looks bland and gray with a few nice post effects thrown in to make it look nice. For some reason people are thinking Killzone 2 is setting the bar, when in reality that game has already been surpassed by games that are already out there on both consoles. Resident Evil 5 is blowing it out of the water visually, as is Far Cry 2 for various reasons that I've already explained. But of course, there will be the ill-informed sheep out there that will look at the likes of this game and KZ2 and automatically think "Wow! This shit isn't possible on that 360 or anything else." Hilarious.

This looks nice, but so did Myst back in the day, in which you weren't technically controlling everything. It looked way better than other games of its time, but that was at the price of freedom of action. You'd kinda wander down a path, click something, and then watch a context-sensitive cut scene. It's a bit misleading for the fact that it's more like an interactive story in which you have a bit less of the typical control over it than you'd have in other games. The same goes for Dragon's Lair. It looked immense compared to other games of its time, but it was the same situation. No freedom... it was like putting a Text Adventure scenario into visual form. I personally love text adventures like Zork and stuff, so that doesn't detract from the game at all! I'm just pointing out that technically it's able to have a jump in graphics as a direct result of other limitations put on the user.

By the time this game will be released, that level of graphics will be usual.

But this game has atmosphere, that`s for sure.
