PS3

If the survival & horror genre interests you, keep a close eye on Imabi Kisou from Chunsoft. It is like a SoundNovel videogame and centers around a drug called "Vision". You play as Hiroki Makimura. After experimenting said mysterious drug, his friends die one after the other, their bodies covered by burns. It is your duty to avoid this malediction by entering the Imabi Kisou manor. I added some rather old scans in case you missed'em ;)

Is this like a press the button and watch part of a video, press another button, watch another video game? Or is there an actual game to it?

From what I red, it's just that the sound (Surround 5.1) plays a really important part in the game and yes I think you get to click between scenes. By SoundNovel, I mean Otogirisou (Super Famicom) and Kamaitachi No Yoru (Super Famicom). If these games are any indication, "The game plays similarly to a gamebook. The player reads the text from the game screen, and makes choices which will affect the outcome of the game." (wiki).

God, i thought they stopped making fmv-games after....like, the sega cd or something? Still, i guess it could be cool if it's well made and has solid actors.

I'm impressed by the fact you actually post this - especially such a graphic-centric site as this. kudos! to exposing people to different genres and philosophy! Keep up the good work.

It's a regular game, except it looks like they're using real actors for the FMV scenes. NFS did this, as did Siren to a lesser extent.

IMO, every genre has something to teach us. Graphics are just a bonus, in most of the cases.

I would have to agree. Gamersyde shows us games that we wouldn't otherwise see. Its one of the many reasons why I visit here.

Confirmed. These sort of games are the norm in Japan. They are just like interactive storybooks but they sell decently over there, which may seem strange to us being from a different culture.

I used to import these types of games all the time in my PS1 days. If you can read enough to understand whats going on (or speak enough in the case of the ones with voice-work) then they are very engaging and fun to play. You can easily get 40+ hours of gameplay out of some trying to get all the different endings.
