Atari press release:
The newest title in the Riddick franchise, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena brings the hit first person shooter to a new audience and a new generation of consoles when it is released for the Xbox360®, PlayStation®3 and Windows® PC in Spring 2009. The action-packed game, a hi–definition re-imagined version of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena features an entirely new chapter in the Riddick Saga and for the first time, intense online multiplayer combat. The Chronicles of Riddick series of games takes the player deeper into the universe of Universal Pictures' films The Chronicles of Riddick and cult classic Pitch Black, which first introduced Vin Diesel as enigmatic anti-hero Riddick. In The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena the player takes the role of Riddick using stealth and action to overcome the merciless crew of the predatory Merc-ship Dark Athena which awaits its prey in the dark reaches of space. Cheating death through a series of spectacular battles and events, Riddick will fight for his life amid a storm of malevolence and horror.

PRODUCT FEATURES:

· Atmospheric and cinematic first person shooter – Great story telling in sci-fi environments handled with AAA Hollywood treatment for an immersive journey through Vin Diesel’s blockbuster universe
· Multiplayer modes – Variety of fast-paced multiplayer and online options available for the first time in the Riddick franchise
· Bonus material –Escape from Butcher Bay, considered as one of the best games of 2004, has been re-mastered and will be included along with The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

Doesn't impress me at all. The game looked really good on Xbox, this one doesn't look as good as it could be considering 360 is way more powerful.

This is the Riddick they WANTED to make, but couldn't. This is still going to be brilliant though!

Nice noise filter. At least I hope that's an in-game feature, makes it look like it was captured on film.

Nice screenshots. I never played the Xbox version but heard it was a really good game. Will def pick this up if it's just as good and considering it's a remake with loads of added shit I presume it will be just as good.
I didn't know it was multiplatform though, thought it was just xbox 360?

Honestly, these shots look really nice, what more could you possibly expect?

The second screen could be from killzone 2. It looks really good, just too bad it's a remake. Why didn't they make a new game with the new engine???
It's not (only) a remake. Assault on Dark Athena is a new game, and Escape from Butcher Bay is included (and remastered) as a big bonus.

Loved the first game. It was ahead of it's time and a shame that more people didn't try it. I'm only afraid on this that the new chapter is going to be too short. Maybe a 5 or 6 hour affair? Wonder if there's any chance they'll be selling this at less than normal full price? Either way I'll be looking forward to it.

The backgrounds are clearly Xbox 1 level with higher-res texture assets, which is probably why these shots have blurred them away into irrelevance. In game they'll look a whole lot worse.

I also don't see the point of this at all. People can just buy the PC or Xbox 1 version for pennies.

The first game looked good on the Xbox, but on the PC it was on a completely different level of awesome. It looked like a next-gen game by comparison. This should look really good however since the first came out there have been other games shown to us that look phenomenal as well. The first game took place mostly in cramped corridors so having Crysis level of graphics isn't necessary.
I will be getting this on the PS3.

It's not about technology, it's about exuding an atmosphere. If you can get someone invested into a game, then a few blurry textures matter not.

Missed Escape from Butchers Bay on Xbox but heard it was pretty brilliant so I'll probably be picking it up depending on when in "Spring 2009" it comes out. My March is reserved for RE5.

The game was great looking and playing on Xbox, then was upgraded and even more awesome on PC.

These are the first real shots of the 360/PS3/PC remake that's now coming out. Older shots were from the PC version (unless I missed some).

Visually the game is coming together now, and this remake of the excellent Riddick should be a sure bet compared to the disappointing The Darkness.

I didn't think The Darkness was disappointing. Well... at least not the single player mode. The game's story was interesting and the gameplay was fun. Just like this one was. And the remake WILL be alotta fun!
