why is it cross platform for PS3 and PC, but not the xbox 360

xbox 360 and PC cross platform seems more logical no? and it has been done before so they cant say its because its not possible

probably has something to do with Steam on the Xbox. Surely Microsoft wouldn't want that.

Doubtful. You'll get a voucher when you link your PSN and Steam accounts. Though I suppose they may let you link that to your cousin's account if you're allowed to play both simultaneously. A little too early to tell. But you can play online between the two, yes.

Why is it more logical? Microsoft are control freaks. The only way they're going to allow that kind of cross platform communication is if Valve uses Game For Windows Live, and they have their own platform on the PC with millions of users already, so don't expect them to jump ship to an alternative (and inferior) product any time soon. If Microsoft would allow Valve to use this implementation of Steamworks on the Xbox, I'm certain that they would, but they almost certainly have to use Xbox Live, which includes Microsoft certification for updates and patches too, another feature coming through the Steamworks pipes for the PS3 version.

Sony is actually the more logical choice here, since there never was a real choice from the get go.

I don't own a PS3 but I'd probably buy the PS3 version if I did--even though I'd probably never play it :P

more logical cause PC and Xbox = microsoft. didnt think about the steam side of things

i jsut said it cause it was done with one of the 360 games (cross platform, cant remember name of game atm) so it shouldnt have been too hard

It was done in Shadowrun, but that was a Microsoft Game Studios release and one of the original Games For Windows Live titles. GFW is mostly a giant flop, and it's not attracting a lot of developer interest (Epic is using it for Bulletstorm though). Windows is one of the few Microsoft products that's still a relatively open development environment. Most developers would like to see it stay that way, but if you want to play with the Xbox, you have to play by Microsoft's rules. A lot of people who had used it in the past have dropped GFW in favor of either doing their own thing or jumping on Steamworks, because the alternatives are more robust and mature, and you don't need their permission to release simple patches and updates, or worse, DLC.

Sony's giving Valve a lot of give here, and they'd never get that from Microsoft. They (MS) won't even play nice with others on the PC. Instead of publishing their wares on established DD outlets, they only sell them through GFW. If you're not doing it their way, you're probably not doing it. It's all a little ironic, really, since that kind of freedom is precisely why some people still prefer Windows over MacOS.. but they're distancing themselves from it more and more with every new product.

Lost Planet EC Colonies Edition had the cross platform play between the 360 and the PC.

I think it was a limited time thing though.

Bribe? These aren't backroom deals. There's nothing wrong with anyone paying for features or exclusives. I still think it has more to do with XBL being a closed circuit than anything tho...
