Looks like a typical Unreal engine title, which is to say it has flat lighting, blurry textures, no anti-aliasing, and a generally low-poly look. Let's see if it also has those other delightful UE3 characteristics when running - texture pop in, screen tearing, and frequent slow down.

It seems only Epic can get anything good out of their own engine. As Square now have their FF13 'white' engine running on the 360, I hope this will be their last UE3 effort.

The hell, moroboshi. UE3's textures can be really sharp. Of course they look best on the PC. But it's known now that the 360 can do sharper textures because of the memory. No offence, I own both of 'em.

Game looks great, though there's so much lag during battles. I'm so hoping they'll fix this. Which I somehow doubt ):

Er, he wasn't comparing any consoles... So why did you mention that you own both of em? A little reading comp can help as if you took the time to read what he typed up, you would notice he merely blasted the engine and not the 360 which you were quick to defend. And from what I've found, the UE3 titles with extremely sharp textures are those made by Epic themselves. Nearly every other licenced UE3 title has framerate issues, pop up issues, etc. The worst documented case is the Silicon Knights v. Epic one.

Back to the game, I think it looks fine. The water looks like sh!t and there is no excuse for it looking that way, especially since Bioshock (another UE3 title) had such great water.

i dont get why people keep putting down the UE3 engine..most games look great using, and when comparing a game like gears of war to Mirrors edge you can see just how adaptable the engine is. Theres a reason why so many developers make use of it.

The only negative thats been noted that has any value is the texture popin that comes with the engine....but its not like thats limited to just the UE3 engine this generation is it?

As for lighting and textures... i can only think you guys mustn't be playing in HD..because i would say those are certainly the engines strengths..infact if i'm honest i've not played one unreal powered game that had poor textures and lighting... too human wasnt visually all that impressive during gameplay true, but the cutscenes were well done and sported nice textures, and that was all in engine.

What the heck is your problem Moroboshi? You obviously got issues. The graphics don't look flat at all.

See it's not the UE3 that's bad, it's the developer. But i agree that this game looks bad. But in the end it is not the engines fault that the developers use low res textures and a very grey/brownish color scheme.

I really don't understand why people say that this is a good looking game. I think it looks terrible! Just look at the first pic, you call that rocks?!

Didn't Mass Effect use UE3? That game takes your breath away at times (the fact that I've already clocked up 45 hours on that game is a testament to the quality of the design).

I think that's the problem. Square Enix are betting all their horses on FFXIII. There's a definite difference in quality in terms of design. These games are easy to churn out by comparison, especially using muddleware (deliberate) like UE3.

To quote Bill Hicks, "Like frogs layin eggs..."

This is still a game that's officially coming to the PS3, so you might want to add that PS3 icon even though 360 version comes out earlier.

EDIT: Oh, and the pictures look good. No problem with the textures for me.

I agree... UEIII is kinda too blurry...

I mean I was hoping that this game would be like FFVIII a bit... but it looks like the rest of those meaningless RPG's that are coming out. Heh I guess it's wait for FFXIII

Also as I remember there was going to be a PC version... right?

lol yeah. Epic does amazing things with the engine, and a few otherws had incredible success (Bioshock anyone? Mass Effect? Yeah, exactly), but the rest are usually pretty meh, but much better in motion.

Mass Effect is technically flawed: pop-in, screen tearing, framedrops from beginning to end. Very few reviewers mentioned it though, as if it wasn't important. For some people like me, these bugs get in the way of satisfying gameplay.

PC version was great though, none of those technical issues. That is if you could get past the DRM. I could and I got a great game in the process.
