Xbox 360 PS3

Konami recently announced that the new Silent Hill game will go under the name Silent Hill: Homecoming, and that it will be released at the end of September in Europe. Here is a couple of not so impressive images from the game itself.

Konami press release:
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced the official title of its first Silent Hill game for PLAYSTATION®3 and Xbox 360. Entitled Silent Hill: Homecoming, the game will be released end of September this year across Europe.

The sixth installment in the classic video games series, Silent Hill: Homecoming introduces another protagonist to the mythos. The story follows Alex Shepherd, returning to his hometown of Shepherd’s Glen to investigate the sudden disappearance of his brother. From Shepherd’s Glen to Silent Hill, Alex must face the darkest of horrors in order to find his brother. Struggling with his own grip on reality, Alex must unravel the mystery behind his nightmares, discover the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, and confront the evil lurks in the seemingly empty streets of Silent Hill.

Homecoming is the first Silent Hill title for the new wave of ‘next generation’ consoles, featuring all-new graphics that bring the fear and terror of Silent Hill alive like never before. Alex must survive attacks from the misshapen denizens of the town using an all-new enhanced combat system that provides a wide array of attacks and counters. Along the way, Alex will encounter a variety of weapons to battle these horrific monsters and must also solve deadly puzzles as he uncovers the darkest secrets of Silent Hill.

Silent Hill: Homecoming also features an all-new soundtrack by acclaimed series composer Akira Yamaoka.

Looks like a new PC title running at 640 x 480 on a huge monitor with every single graphical effect turned off.

I wanted to believe they've been using placeholder textures all this time, but seeing as the game's only months away it looks like the Japanese engineers are indeed superior to the American ones. Should I even be surprised?

All that said, I'm still looking forward to this game. It's Silent Hill, and Yamaoka's involved as usual. And they didn't drop the "5" because it doesn't look as good as the last ones. It has to do with marketing. They're obviously trying to expand the series.

I don't know about saying 'looks like PS2 quality', but the texture resolution is dreadful!

Well, this is what happens when Konami dont develope the game. This looks kind of... poor.

Too bad they didn't want to make the game themself, it would surely kick ass.

And, since they removed the number "5" from the title, it feels liek Konami dont even trust this project...

Perhaps Konami insisted that '5' was dropped from the title as they aren't impressed with it? Two or three years down the line they (Team Silent) could then release the real Silent Hill 5 and dismiss this monstrosity as merely 'an embarrasing side story to the Silent Hill universe'.

for the people that are complaining about the graphics, don't forget Silent Hill have heavy effects filters applied to them. So if the lighting & animation is perfect, you won't even notice the bland textures.

here's a mockup how the final game can look like:

It looks like EA-style PS2 bullshots is what it looks like. The texture resolution is actually worse than the Silent Hill games on the PS2 for Pete's sake!

Even though these graphics look like crap, I still feel Silent Hill V will be a much better game than Alone in the Dark. Graphics and technology don't make or break a game.

I still think SH3 is the best looking of ALL the SH games, including this one so far. But remember they do have almost half a year before release, you never know, things could improve. I remember Dead Rising had some pretty massive changes in graphics leading up to its release.

game really does look like a ps2 game. i dont usually agree with those statements since, well, have you actually seen a ps2 game recently, but that really does. there is nothing in those shots thats hasnt been seen in ps2 games. reflective water, dynamic shadows where in SH2, if those are 360/ps3 shots then it genuinely looks terrible.
