Xbox 360 PS3

Konami and The Collective release two galeries of Silent Hill 5 screenshots, one from the PS3 build and the other from the 360 build. Nevertheless, some images showing absolutely no differences at all from one version to the other, we kinda doubt they're really X360/PS3...
Update: We cleaned the old screens and the doubles. Obviously the multiplateform tag was a mistake from Gamespress.

Ahem... Gallery 1, screen 3, and Gallery 2 screen 7. Absolutely identical!!! Every pixel. No way those screens are from 2 different builds!!! Traitors... bah. ^^
Well, as old SH fan I must say: THIS LOOKS UGLY. really a bit dissapointed about the grafx. Now it's all about gameplay and story and athmosphere, but my optimism has gone... =(

honestly, it is really drab for next gen...im not one who complains about graphics, but, man...one would think that with next gen they could scare you to the point of a total loss of bowel control...but, that really looks plain.

Silent Hill's always had magnificent graphics, so it's a shame these press shots showcase some rather drab locales and poor compositions. Again, probably not a final build nor what the developer wanted, and maybe demanded as ever by the publisher who might've taken them themselves. This happens far too often.

The have the empty feel nailed, though. Remember Silent Hill isn't about big shocks and scares, but surreal emptiness.

First of all it is still in the making
Second of all its been made by a diffrent team
Third of all the "noise" effect has not been placed on yet (going by all previous games thaty all looked drab, but the noise effect made them a lot more appealing)
Fourth its not in motion, and the video i have see in motion look splendour :D

Please the whole " this looks shit the textures are lame blah blah blah" do you not see that this is the whole reason the industry is going like it is, when people dont really care for how it plays and if its you know "fun", the industry is that scared trying to impress you with its visuals they dont have time/money left for the important things like "fun" and "intresting"
True we could look in the Wii corner and see the complete opposite, where what we...well me at least want to see is something in the middle yes i want immersive graphics, but that does not mean i want realistic graphics, if i want realistic i will look around at the trees in my local forest while jogging and pretend i am running from hordes of alien/monsters/nazis, not that i will though due to i dont want to be placed in a mental home ...not just yet anyway.

As for the scare factor, *sigh* has no one learned from the movies or games of past ? the visuals dont scare, its the execution of the scare that scares, the only time i was not scared in DOOM 3 was when i was shooting .. but the silent parts ...

Condemned 2 is laying the smackdown on this at the moment, in terms of graphics and a visceral experience, at least.

At the moment, this is looking distinctly PS2/Xbox, I really hope they give it some polish, hell, Alone in the Dark stomps this!

The udders on the Silent Hill cow must be running empty by now...

Really ? i always thought that every silent hill has brought something new to the table in terms of story telling, the silent hills have always been fresh and disturbing and never really felt samey, now street fighter thats milking a franchise with very little more than baby steps in change.

I am currently playing Ps2 games on my HDTV, like the awesome God of War :D and i must say, i wish they looked like this, And alone in the dark stomps this, you say that like its a bad thing ? its a great game been made by what seems to me very capable people.

im not talking about photo-realistic gore, or shock value, im talking about enviroment, ambiance, etc. Silent Hill has been my on-the-edge title for a long time, i just hate to see more of the same i guess. im not saying it sucks, i just dont think they are even coming near to what they are capable of...course, it is a different team

To me, SH5 sounds way more exciting than Condemned and what-have-you. It's not about graphics, though SH has been known for delivering in that area. I'm sure SH5 will look amazing in the end, so some of you graphics whores need to "unbunch" your panties already.

Okay, SH is now dead to me. Wtf is up with the freaking hud shit when fighting? I would have hoped that had died after the room, but obviously not. And it's still way too light, looks like you don't even need the flashlight anymore.

Over all the graphics look like shit considering that it's based on either 360 or PS3 hardware. To me it looks like it would be feasible gfx for the ps2? Really, it's not all that far from SH3 or the room, is it?

Yeah, comparing Condemned's one-note whacking gameplay and cheap jump-out shock antics to the downright sophistically disturbing and facinating Silent Hill series is pretty much... laughable if it wasn't so obviously misguided.

I do think there's merit to worries that this will be samey though. Not necessarily because The Collective isn't capable, but rather because they're so busy nailing the style and feel of an existing game (SH2 super obviously) that they forget to explore new stories and ways to tell those stories.

I still think these screenshots lend more confidence in that it's turning out great though. Keep in mind that there are plenty of visual tricks going on that aren't evident in screenshots, like the realtime descent into "hell" as depicted in the movie.

Why do some of you guys even take shots at Konami (KCET) ?
They're not developing this game. It's made by Foundation 9,one of their companies actually.

I'm dissapointed in the looks of this game, but SH still is the scariest game ever made, for me.Up until now anyway.

Well, that told me...

The main reason I highlighted AITD was the fact that although the multi-platform aspect covers two generations of hardware, a lot more effort seems to have gone into the 360 and PS3 versions than these guys have.

Indeed, previous incarnations of Silent Hill have been downright disturbing, and I would say is unique to the series. But, with new hardware to play with, I would have hoped they would have furthered their ambitions a little more.

Sorry for having my own opinion, yours is obviously superior to mine</sarcasm>

Silly excuses. A game 'can' be scary if the visuals aren't up to bar, but that's no excuse for this looking like utter crap on an Xbox 360 and PS3. Hell, even if it was a Wii exclusive I'd complain about the graphics being so bad. And even if it's not made by the original team, that's still no excuse for the crappy graphics. They let another team make it because they thought they'd do a good job. Well, they seem to be wrong.

Then you are expecting to much from developers, this is the real world we are in and not everything is going to look like something on a sony advert, the game is still in development and has a serious amount of time left, be glad the companys are keeping you in the picture and drip feeding us info on how things are going

Did you see halo, 4 months before launch ? it was utter shit, and that goes for a majority of games, mind you the fact you said if this was a Wii game you would still be let down just points out the kind of person i am arguing with here.
Sometimes i wish our pastime never went main stream...

Hmmm...Did anyone else notice that in the lower right corner of the third picture it says "Babel -17.25"? Wtf is that about?

Anyways, the graphics aren't super yet and maybe they won't be when it releases either, but what's really bugging me is still stuff like a HUD and the fact that there seems to be little need for the flashlight. I guess it could still be good but i'm taking a cautious stance to it.

Brightness/contrast is wonky in these shots though. Stuff 'em in photoshop and sort so black bits are proper black and you'll surely find a use for a flashlight. In fact, that addresses most of the blandness aswell.
