Xbox 360

Atlus are bringing Spectral Force 3 to the US (and hopefully Europe) on the 27th of May, and here is a new batch of images from the localized version of the game. Even though many complain about the graphics, I can't help to like how clean the game looks. The game seems to have a 60$ price tag, which may be debatable to some.

This game would be acceptable on a psp, not on a 360. Looks like dung.

This game was made by a small developer. Give them a PS10 or Xbox 1800 and it will still look like dung if they don't have the resources to trick out every damn graphics option. Hate to break this to you but not every single game listed on Gamersyde is developed by companies with millions at their beck and call.

To me, it comes down to price.

The reason I'm willing to pay $60 for a game is that I understand that high production value comes with a cost.

For games that lack that level of polish, I would expect to pay less.

Then they should adjust their platform to what their economy allows for. Maybe this should have been on XBLA or PSN? Perhaps it HOULD have been a title for a portable system?

If the price reflects the quality of this, then sure...but i doubt that will happen.

Culdcept Saga wasn't even $60 when new, and while I love Culdcept, and those kind of deep games, even if the gameplay isn't flawless... I agree that this shouldn't be a full price game, but probably not XBLA/PSN if the file size and production quality warrants a DVD game.

$60 price tag is suicide, especially for this niche of a title; even then, hardcore SJRPG fans would think twice about purchasing this game.

You've got a good point. I'd be willing to bet actual hard cash that this game would sell a lot more on XBLA than it will as a regular priced game. Let's be realistic, only fans of the series are going to go into a shop and buy this (or order online more likely), especially outside Japan, and it's going to flop hard. Whereas if it was on XBLA there might be a lot of people curious about the game as there aren't really any XBLA games like it and if it's got great gameplay then I'm sure many people would buy it if it was only like 800 Points.

You don't think they've thought of doing something like putting it up on XBLA? I'm sure a lot of companies would love to put their games up on XBLA but M$ has limits to file sizes and make very few exceptions. I highly doubt this game can fit under 150 megs, or come close. I love how people say "Should have been on XBLA" so easily when it's not even feasible.

Why would they need to adjust their platform? What does platform have anything to do with a company's financial resources? This game was developed for the Japanese market which wouldn't care that it came full price on DVD. In any case, Culdcept Saga was released for $40 I don't see any reason they wouldn't follow suit.

Willdabeast: Maybe it's not feasible on XBLA in it's current state, but perhaps they could adjust the game in such a way that would allow for digital distribution and thus avoiding alienation of everybody except for the 4 people in japan who are actual owners of 360 consoles :P

I admit that 150 megs is steep, MS should totally let that crap go, but still. There's just no way that people will want to buy this game at full price outside of japan, and no one in japan has a goddamn 360 so i just don't understand what artard decided this would be a full price 360 game. I hope he/she gets fired for stupidity. This should be out on either PS2, PSP or PSN (or xbla if MS would allow for bigger games).

I felt i had to answer that one separately. The answer is of course this: Everything. If your company is in a weak economical situation you want to choose the platform that costs the least to develop for and gives the best possible return. The answer here is of course digital distribution. You go around the hassle of actually printing and shipping games all over the place, the expectations for graphics will be lower, you can sell it cheaper (since you eliminate loads of expenses via the digital distribution) and that will in turn make more sales of the title. I'd guess you'd get a HUGE boost in sales if this game was between 800 to 1600 MSP instead of 60 bucks. In this scenario people could afford to buy it just out of curiosity.

So yeah...making a 360 exclusive in a genre that has few fans outside of japan when you have a small company sound's pretty stupid to me.

I've seen better graphics on senior projects at my school for gods sake. Its not a big deal, but if your gunna be professional then you need quality work. I mean unless the game is REALLY fucking long, its gunna be tiny. Which means your paying upwards of $70 for a disc that has about maybe half as much as a normal game.
I'm sure its a great game and all, but meh, kinda unappealing to me. Not just because of the graphics though, which at least are smooth.

You guys don't know jack shit about gaming. If you've been gaming for any longer than 5 years you know that graphics don't mean anything. I'm still buying SNES and PS1 games, and guess what? They're often better than the crap on the market today.

As for the game costing $60, I don't see that being confirmed anywhere, and even if it did it wouldn't matter. Most people who are into these sorts of games would pay $80 for them if needed.

Synce: It's logical for a game on the PS1 to look like a PS1 game, because it IS a PS1 game, it's stupid for a game on the 360 to look like a PSP game because it's is not a PSP game, it is a game on a piece of hardware that has the ability to produce graphics like Gears of War. Now i'm not saying that every game has to look like that but tbh i didn't get a 360 to keep playing with last gen graphics.

And people keep defending the shit graphics with stupid arguments like how it's a small company and yadda yadda, well like i said earlier, choose a platform that fits your size as a company then.

Also few snes and PS1 games are "better than the crap on the market today", the general quality of games has skyrocketed the two last generations. Ofc you choose only to remember the gems on those consoles and not the PILES of shit that were/is available for both SNES and PS1.

Crapload is the only word suiting this game, visually its around the same margins as of Disgaea 3, but Disgaea has a uniquely mastered anime art-style and gameplay-wise, Disgaea series is unbeatable in the genre...

For those of you who don't like the look of this game, simple don't buy it.

I have the JP version of this and its a pretty solid game as far as SRPGs go, and personally it looks a damn sit better graphically than Disgaea 3.

Now I'm sure a game like Disgaea 3, will be full price so I don't see why SF3 wouldn't be either.

The fact of the matter is that many people don't like SRPG's so they will always be a niche market.

I don't see why Idea Factory should have chosen another platform either, I just think some of you will winge over the smallest thing, even when the game in question doesn't even interest you.

I will be picking the localised version up for sure, as the JP version was a bit on the difficult said to understand.

And you my friend clearly don't know what you are talking about, Disgaea 3 has 2D sprits this has 3D models, personally I think there is a huge difference.
