Personally I have only played SO3 and thought the characters were abysmal. Combat is ok but felt unpolished.

This looks quite similar combat wise, won't judge characters til I play it (if I play it). Fair guess to say they won't change the combat much, most JRPG don't tend to. Go rent SO3 or play the older ones to see how you like it.

Graphically it is nice, zoomed out everything looks clean enough and the character models are well detailed. When you get closer (Like in the picture with the girl) environment textures look a bit stretched.

Wow, that character model freaks me out. Character art looks good though, so hopefully they make the character models closer to the art.

for some reason a lot of the recent JRPGs look a bit the same.. it all feels like a wrong combination of styles.

@jaxcellent
Star Ocean series is a Epic, if you are a JRPG fan (Like me) you'll probably love it. The main focus is the awesome and elaborate storyline, fast-paced and enjoyable battle system, beautiful environments and strong well craft characters, with a good level of personality simulation. This game/series is a game to be in your "Epic RPGs Score 10" collection. But, like jackdoe said, that characters model freak me out too, hope they change it, if not, probably we will have to swallow it to enjoy the game. The older Star Ocean ones ever had anime-like characters, and i'm cool with that, i like anime and that style of visual on JRPGs too, but not freak as these ones : /

The game actually looks good in these screens, however, the gameplay is what matters to me. SO3 was fun but got repetitive quickly.

You sure you saw the same game? There is example no random enconter, so not exactly sure what you meen by random spawn fights?

The dungeon looks pretty much as filled as RPG's become, but in the end what makes SO series so great is it's fun combat system & Story. Plus that it's one of the very few actually scifi RPG's and not with the pile of standard setting RPG's.

star ocean 4 .i hope it get on the ps3 soon ...
why ? because star ocean is a technical rpg ... a good understanding on fthe battle system is required to exploit the game ( you can enjoy it without it )

well 1 and 3 were great so i see no reason why i should wait for this one seeing it seems to improve 3 's gameplay

i wonder what kind of battle trophies they are going to throw at us ....

EDIT : i just saw the images and it's beautifull ... can't wait to try it ..next year

I have no idea how that relates to you wanting it on the PS3.

Doesn't that fourth screenshot reminds me FF7 right after the beginning.

The SO series is a pretty poor and forgettable series. Every single game has had a mediocre story and lame characters. It's a slim chance this one will be different from the past games but who knows there's always false hope right?

Looking good, SO3 was my favorite game in the last 12 years, SO2 and SO1 were also brilliant. Infact, id say the SO series is the best rpg series out there.

So im quite happy to be seeing this. Now if only they would stop making FF games....

Wow I thought I was the only person who thought it was great aswell.

Although I don't want them to stop making FF games, they need to re-evualuate what made 7,8 and 10 such good games.

Yea, I loved 7,8, and 10 as well, but X-2, XI, and XII have ruined my love for the series. Throw in all the spinoffs and you just have too much crap in the mix. Id love for them to make the games fun again, but I just cant see them doing it. Much like how capcom turned the RE series from survival horror to a standard 3rd person shooter in RE4.(Im a huge minority, but I hated RE4 with a passion. Im a huge fan of the first 3 and code veronica becuase they had suspense and actual horror where as 4 was basically run n gun crap.)

So hopefully, since FFXIII will be made, they will rethink everything and have the game be less mmo and more rpg.
