Wii

Here's another game for Nintendo's future online service WiiWare - Star Soldier R, a vertichal shmup which appeared on many consoles in the past (Star Soldier (NES), Super Star Solider (TG16) et Soldier Blade (TG16)). No release date is available, but we have images for you right after the jump.

Product Overview: Star Soldier R roars in from Japan to test your shooter skills! Go for the high score in 2-Minute or 5-Minute Modes or see if you have the fastest trigger finger in Quick Shot Mode! Then go online and see if your scores are the best in your region. There’s even an all-new Force System: collect up to five orbiting satellites that can be held close to the ship for defensive cover or can be sent out for additional firepower. Use the controls style that suits you best: Nunchuk + Wii Remote, Wii Remote only (held sideways), or Classic Controller.
Brand New Features:
● Tournament Style – Flying in straight from Japan, this tournament-style shooter tests your skills with three different game modes. Go for the highest score possible in either 2-Minute or 5-Minute Modes or see if you’ve got the fastest trigger finger in Quick Shot Mode.
● Online Leaderboards – Go online and see if your scores are the best in the world, your country, or your region. If not, keep practicing until they are!
● All-New Force System - Collect power-ups to increase your Force (orbiting satellites) up to five. They can be held close to the ship to provide defensive cover or can be sent out to provide additional firepower.
● Three Control Schemes – Use the style that suits you best: Nunchuk + Wii Remote, Wii Remote only (held sideways), or Classic Controller.

looks incredibly bland to me. i mean, 2D style shooters are pretty limited in what they can do, but this just looks bland. i mean, its some moon looking background with floating square plates of enemies. hopefully its just a bad looking stage and its representative of the full game.

I think it's funny how some indie developers are complaining about all the ports and crap games on XBLA when Wiiware is starting out with tons of ports and shitty games too (the competitive eating game and internal designer game, for example).

2 or 5 minutes? I seriously hope it will offer more than a 2 and 5 minute mode. The graphics aren't insane either. I understand shmups aren't supposed to be long, but this is pretty insane.

nope, the game will include the classic mode as well, with limited lives and several levels (should be 10).

star soldier has always been about gameplay, i love the series (specially the psp port of the ps2 version)
