To GeRaLTo from last week "... but the Earth screen is coming. You know they're holding back on that one because it's so iconic!"

and there it is! And it looks amazing!!!!

Destructible terrain, Julian Gollop (creator of original XCOM) might be pleased to know it's there. He was interviewed by EDGE on what he thought of this remake.

Hehe indeed. That pic looks really nice. Those screens look sharper then last week and small part of me wants to believe.... Tpp is still out of the place tho.

Third-person perspective makes me think of Full Spectrum Warrior or Valkyria Chronicles, which were also turn-based. Maybe this is not just a remake?

see I never played the original, and to me the alien designs from the fps are far more unique and interesting... but see here we are dealing with the usual issue of "hardcore gamers" just wanting the same damn thing over and over again... DMC being another example... don't get me wrong this game looks interesting I just hope they don't go and change the fps game' enemies and such because of a bunch of nostalgia bitten gamers had a big hissy fit about something they probably hadn't even played. If the two games can exist as different takes on the same universe that will be fine.

It really isn't gamers wanting the 'same damn thing' Turn based strategy games are incredibly rare, and XCOM was arguably the best ever. People saying they want a reasonably faithful follow up to a game which is over 15 years old is hardly asking for more of the same.

The FPS is the same thing, over and over again. Kiddies who don't care about the IP can find about a billion other shooters to play.

I'm extremely happy with what I see so far. I kept wondering and I guess "hoping" that the earth screens would be cool... but this far exceeded my expectations. That looks beautiful. I would like to see more detail in the combat screens, as long as it doesn't loose the vibe of XCOM's origins. I mean... look at what we WERE playing- so detail wasn't as important as atmosphere but, it would be nice!
