Everything is just so perfect. I just hope they beef up the animations. Other than that, im truly getting this game when its out next year. The tornado scene is just insane. Look at the graphical elements esp the electrical effects the moment the tornado was erected. Fucking hell!

Looks fantastic, and great to see a higher level of destruction going on in the environments. Very impressive step up indeed, looks like a lot of fun :D

Now I am interested, he seems to be faster in movement and has much cooler power upgraded.
So far I am super impressed.

this should have been shown at E3. i think it would have gotten an equally impressive reaction as the uncharted 2 video from a year or so ago. that tornado or ion vortex or whatever they're calling it looked super impressive. as does everything. i'm super psyched for this, loved the first one.

What I don't get is how that old guy in the limo is so confident that the helicopter is going to smack Cole upside the head lol

Damn, that was pretty impressive. I never even bought the first game (thought the demo was terrible). I'm just curious how much of that was scripted that way, and how much actual choice the player has in how that plays out. It looked a lot like something out of UC2. If they can pull off that kind of intensity in an open world, unscripted environment, I will be extremely impressed.

Also, what is with every game copying Dead Space's aliens for enemies lately? The enemies in the beginning are damn near identical to Dead Space. So are the new Red Faction game enemies, Gears 3, and Prototype.

and the dead space enemies where inspired by 'the thing'. nothing is truly original any more.

That looked pretty damn awesome! I love how you can grind on the powerlines and then jump off and hoover for a while. It certainly looks like it has some great pacing.

Visuals are excellent as well. The animations are still pretty shit though. Running animations are improved quite a bit but the movements still look a bit silly and awkward...

God yes. Core character control was what made the first InFamous brilliant for me, and it showed just how much understanding a platform game developer brings to a genre that is otherwise marred by really awkward and bad character control for the most part. That powerline grinding/hovering was in the first one in full force, and made my list of "gameplay moments of the year" 2009. The game never tells you that you can do it, either, so it's feels rewarding because you think to combine those two powers, and then it's SUPER rewarding because it feels so gooood.

Just watching this video makes me wanna take the first game for another whirl, and I've got 100% in it already. :O

Thats definitely a leap in graphics. The last game wasn't all that bad graphically to me but man this looks a lot better. The game already looks to be more fun than the last as well.

So, can you drive vehicles now or not? I remembered the first game where you had a huge city bun non-driveable cars etc. ^^

Sure, you have some special powers but even in Crackdown you can use cars altough your agent becomes highly overpowered later.

nope, i'm sure they could, but the reasoning behind it was that he's an electric superhero. so for the same reason he can't use guns, he can't drive cars. tbh, with such awesome movement i dont see why anyone would want to drive a car in the game. same goes for crackdown or prototype. you have protagonists that can either hover, fly, climb, grind and/or jump around like maniacs. driving seems kinda boring in comparison.

I'm starting to think the demo for the first game was absolutely terrible, because this is a lot like the first game and people seem unaware of that. :O

I mean effectively the new things in this video are his wall grinds and the tornado thing. Oh and the rod he beats people up with. The other powers and abilities are already in the first game.

same thing happened with uncharted 2 tho. people who hadnt even played/seen uncharted 1 where raving about it. when a lot of what was in the game was in the first. they where acting like the combination of platforming and shooting was amazing. but it was a big part of the first game too. i guess you have to throw a lot of explosions at someone before they take notice...lol. i'm sure when they buy and love infamous 2 they'll give the first a try, much like they did with uncharted.

i loved the demo tho. it was really long (close to an hour if you play about a bit) and i played it about 15 times. gave you a pretty good idea of all the mechanics too.

You think this looks terrible? Is that what I'm reading? How does this look at all like the 1st games demo lol. Those are a lot of new abilities and it doesn't even show his new ice powers... what exactly were you hoping for in a 3 minute gameplay vid?

Yeah. It kinda irks me. You get this "so this is CLEARLY a better game" comments about things that, as you say, were present already. It goes to show how far off the mark people's impressions of a game can be.. and the cynic in me would even suggest.. most often are.

Looks like a nice engine upgrade, but the main character is an absolute train wreck. Who on earth would want to control a whiny, snotty nosed kid? Sucker Punch should take a good long look at Red Dead Redemption to see how a top tier dev designs characters.

I actually like Cole's new look. To me, it seems to have more personality than his old appearance. Now I still think he looked cool in the first game, but he kinda felt like Nathan Hale (Resistance) in a tracksuit.

Though part of me thinks the the new black'n'white color palette was chosen to make it fit in better with the particular style of Deferred Shading chosen for their renderer.

I think CHANGING him is a tough pill to swallow in itself, and that's bound to cause some friction. A way to address that is to create a "previously on" type affair where they retrofit the first story with new Cole and give that character some context in the events we've seen transpire. As it stands, it's inevitably gonna be an excercise in working out how old Cole turned into new Cole in your head. And hey, explaining why anyone runs off and douches oneself up with hair gel, tats and necklaces after the ending to Infamous 1 is a nigh incomprehensible proposition.

But then there's the issue apart from that that he looks a bit too pretty. He's not just a stark contrast to old Cole, he's a stark contrast to the outcast super hero he is. It's commendable to face every day with product in your hair I suppose, but when you're mainly gonna get shot at by helicopters, getting all fancypants with your appearance is really just evidence of an ego-centric douchebag.
