Microsoft is trying to prove once again that they are very serious about Japan, and this time they had quite a few interesting announcements about upcoming Xbox 360 games. Many thanks to Jonnyram for his realtime reporting from the press conference.
First of all, a lot of japanese publishers are signed up for Xbox Live Arcade content: Konami, Hudson, Namco and SNK are listed. Pacman and Galaga are almost ready.
Namco then announced the future release of Culdcept Saga for Xbox 360, playable online. Imagine a strange mix between a board game and a RPG.
Sakaguchi then announced that Blue Dragon would be released at the end of the year in Japan. Lost Odyssey will have a playable demo in Autumn, and be fully released in 2007. Cry On will be released much later.
Square-Enix then announced Project Sylph, a shooter they will publish, developed by Game Arts. 360 Exclusive.
Finally Microsoft announced they would be publishing another big RPG, this time developed by Tri Ace.
A Lot of new trailers and videos were shown, but it looks like people were not allowed to film. Wait & See!

And why is Game Arts working for Square Enix? I thought they were bought by GungHo a couple of months ago?
Very pleased with what I heard though they are obviously still holding the big guns for E3.
It's Lost Odyssey that will be released in 2007.
In Japan.
Microsoft should just make this a worldwide release.
At any rate when I think about its pretty smart for microsoft to hold off because then they have more weapons to show off at E3. Also according to ign Square Enix will announce more 360 support at E3.
EDIT- roxwell quote:
nothing there to get me excited. Roll on E3.
Scrap that.. Just seen project Sylph, Woot...Woot
On second thought, was Culdcept the Namco unannounced rpg?

I was hoping for something from the Tales Series.
The only thing exciting in that press conference was the announcement of the Tri-Ace RPG which is going to be published by Microsoft Game Studios.
Other than that Microsoft Japan needs to stop making these press conferences and just save their money.

You don't generate interest in your product unless you talk about it, or show it off.
This is a business, not a retirement program.

Anyway, the word is out now, and it's up to the individual to interpret that word as good or bad.
Some would say, "cool!" others would say, "its better than nothing", and still others would say " I want more".
No matter how you take it, nothing's going to turn back time.
I honestly don't think the monetary cost of organizing a conference is an issue for Microsoft.
If it was, this probably wouldn't have happened.
(on the contrary, and as I've mentioned, it can only help to generate interest hence the whole news blast)

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed after all the so-called rumors of the Chrono game and all. I'm disappointed more at myself rather than the conference for actually believing the rumors...I should have known better.
Anyway I'm still very much of an optimist in many things. The best thing I got from that conference is the Tri-Ace RPG game which is being published my Microsoft Game Studios.
