GSY Video Xbox One

I've also managed to save some Killer Instinct footage, that I color corrected as best as I could but it's still very dark. Still, at least the video runs at 60 fps!
Update: Added a second, and also last, video.

I hate the new designs of classic characters ¬¬ I wish the old Rare was alive, and not dead... (And yes, I know! this game is made by Double Helix, not Rare)

I don't think Rare (old or new) would appease you, either. What you're basically saying is, "You better make it EXACTLY like the old one or I'll hate you forever".

Funny thing is, if it looked EXACTLY like the old one there are two things;
1. It wouldn't look good in today's market. Those old designs and renders were great when we were growing up, but the reality is they don't hold up now.
2. A bunch of people who don't know/understand the old games would say, "Why do these characters look like plastic dolls covered in oil with super big/long faces???"

If you want the old game(s), there are plenty of emulators (I play them all the time on emulator). If you want to accept something truly "new", something that's smooth, 60fps, hi-res, online, modern, then realize these guys aren't trying to kill your childhood. Hell, from what I've read, they're all really big fans.

Plus, don't they have the original game designer consulting anyway?!

I agree. Whilst I'm not exactly sure about some of the new designs, some of the older ones just wouldn't work at all. They are 90's game characters. Even back then I thought Orchid looked ridiculous. Anatomically challenged, with huge pointy tits. I have to say that her new model in this is much, much better. I think Thunder's original design could still work, and it's good that classic outfits will be available for the game also. Ken Lobb, one of the original designers of the game, is involved in this, so this one is mostly for those that grew up in anticipation of the Nintendo 64. Moaners can get fucked.

Man fighting games are so underwhelming now days. I haven't been interested for the last five years. Something really needs to evolve before I ever set foot in the genre again.

Agree. There is simply NO next-gen fighting game. It looks nice, yes, but next-gen fighting game must show some huge progress. Characters are ok, but what about these always present flat texture grounds. You have processing power to create the ground in full 3-D with little stones, grass, small water pools etc. I just dont understand....huge scale games have thousand times better graphics.

I'd agree with some of the complaints about fighting games not showing top notch visuals where you'd expect. A game like this essentially has a scene and two main characters occupying that scene. The characters should be as high poly as possible to the point where finite detail is rendered in actual geometry and not via a map. It'd also be nice if environments and objects were fully interactive with physics and destruction. There's enough processing power now these days to do it, it's just the developers just seem to be afraid to deviate from what is by now almost a die cast tradition.

Although saying that, it still amazes me that looking at a game like this and then remembering back when the original was out and hoping and wishing that games would eventually look like the CG renders of the characters. It's odd looking at what was considered top notch renders back then now and thinking they look terrible compared to the real time models seen now in this game, which they do.

I'm pretty sure this is "next-gen" or more importantly, you'd be hard-pressed to do this on current gen with the same fidelity and 60fps.

I don't think these videos do the game justice. They're compressed and really don't show the 60fps well. I saw it at E3 and still have yet to see a video released that looked as good as it did at E3 and that was months ago.

As for "next gen gameplay", I don't make fight games, so I don't know what "next gen fight game gameplay" would be, but I'm pretty sure if they deviated too far from Killer Instinct core gameplay for this reboot, teh interwebz would be bitching even more.

From what I've read, they're going for reviving Killer Instinct for new and old players, with a focus on tournament play. The FGC are very particular in what they play, what they accept and any "next gen gameplay" would probably be seen as gimmicks.

Either way, I love the first (the first, not the second) game and I'm looking forward to this one, even if Chief Thunder doesn't have his punk-rock mohawk.

Heh, just watched the videos...

Well, at least they're 60fps. Too bad they're off-screen, crunchy and without sound. Also, whoever is playing Sabrewolf and Thunder is TERRIBLE!

The ground in the temple looked modeled, but probably not "1000x better than huge scale games", whichever ones those are.
