Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is clearly becoming one of the most highly-anticipated titles to come in 2012 and it is partly because great names such as Ken Rolston, Todd McFarlane and R.A Salvatore are behind this new RPG. Today, here is a video presenting five minutes of gameplay taken from the PAX demo.

Combat is the only thing that worries me, I found it decent good, but atleast its the best combat in any action RPG I have seen so far so thats a good thing.
Been wanting one for so many years that I have lost all hope for such, great RPG elements, explorations...etc. with great combat from action games from Japan we see these days.
Ah well, I hope this game will be fun.
Combat has the heart of an action game, you can clearly see it in the rolling animations, the hit detections, the sounds of the strikes and how the armors of enemies cracks and flies, things like that you find in action games and not RPGs.
Also thsoe finishers are like OTs from NG2 or finishers from Bayonetta, pretty impressive stuff thinking about it in terms of what RPGs combat are at this point and whats out there.
Im very impressed by what I saw honestly.
Be it shields, guns, swords, hammers, axes...etc. anything.
Should be like Ninja Gaiden were it makes sense, a scabbard for your sword, add detail to make it more believeable.
@Droezelke
Are you new the whole fantasy genre games?
Stuff like this has been done for years now.
trying to rationalize things here for God's sakes!
Also Ryu only has it for the regular size swords, when he uses the Dabi for example is like this also.
:P
Characters put some special glue on their back hehe
Pop in yeah is there, hope they polish that.

You dont like it, you dont buy it, simple rule of life.
I talked to Raptor about this, a action fan to another, he gave some good reasons why it should be like that.
Its more about balancing issues than anything else.
But I would still love to see a game that is a action RPG with its combat being like a true action game as Ninja Gaiden, but ah well its all good.
But for what this game is going for it, it looks very nice for an RPG, best combat there is IMO.
From what i analyzed (as usual) is that the combat has weight behind it and animations looks very nice, well after when the player shows the character in armor, the intro was meh.
I love those melee combos to a magic spell, and those magic spells are brilliant IMO, packs a big "umph" behind it in both sound and visuals.
My absolute favorite one is were the character creates a Phantom Blade (thats what I call it) from the arm and finishes off the enemy.
In the demo there was only one, but I seen in another video you can get two with another animation.
Dodging, is great, its really Ninja Gaiden-ish which is always welcome for me. Wouldnt be bad if they could add like some sort of a phantom dash with a nice afterimage, would be nice.
Mage looks great too, probably the best I have seen in a RPG were a mage is equally as badass in animation and action executions as a melee character.
I hate seeing mages just flicker their wrist to cast a fireball or something, should be more exagerated in body language, especially the hands so it feels like your character is truly powerful with magic.
Those being said, I am really looking forward to, tbh, the only RPG so far I really want and have my heart set for it.
Some things I didnt like was the hud, looks like crap lol.
And the sound of the sword clinging to objects, didnt like it.
PS. character customization is nice as well, atleast they have proper beard models and nothing super exagerated compared to both Dragon Age games which I found to be garbage LOL
The hud I hope they revamp it to make it more fantasy look, more elaborated.
Anyway, give me some local co-op, enough leveling options and a big ass pile of loot and i'm interested. But i guess it looks alright so far.
There is no coop no online nothing, pure SP, also there is no level scaling at all, in the PAX2011 demo vids they mocked Elder Scrolls Oblivion I think because of this, you will get beat in an area and the return when you are more powerfull to kick ass to those same enemies(thank God)
