Seriously the stage looks like a PS2 game. Look at that friggin ground texture. Jeeze, it looks SO bad. What ever posessed them to go from the most amazing looking 2D-game ever made to this garbage?
I think you've nailed down why this is especially jarring: SNK has a long history of amazing sprite work and solid art direction.
I'm still going to buy it, but it's very ugly.
On that note, did SFV get direct input support yet? :P

You guys are mostly FPS fans...crapping on these 3d polygon graphics engine fighting games from the 90s...
I bet you weren't crapping on Doom being a throwback with NO variety in stages despite being in the space age future.
At nay rate, i'm not saying anything about the gameplay. Just the graphics looks really, REALLY bad. Which sucks, as Kof XIII looks fantastic.
As for Doom...it plays great and looks great too, so i have no reason to complain. This might play amazingly, i don't know, but the graphics still look awful to the point where i think they should have just stuck with 2D.

I've played all Kof games...I've seen the SNK art style and as far as being a serious attempt at 3d polygon graphics engine in the animation heavy King of Fighter series... remember that Athena snaps her fingers and switches outfits, clothes rip in KoF 94/95 and Iori had that evil Orochi influence sending him over board animation art wise...stuff that Street Fighter somewhat copied like the tag system but instead of turns they turned to tag.
BTW Street Fighter 1 1987 is a hard to play, beautiful but sucky to play game...a far cry from SFII... we all know that Street Fighter IV sucked but because there was a lot of nostalgic brainwashed SFII fans on Xbox...they were giving the game a free pass...this game looks nearly no different but obviously better because working on one hardware will allow them to actually do the herculean effort of doing the 2d animations justice in 3d polygons.
As I predicted...you forgive all the awful flaws in Doom...not surprised...
Look...unless you went to arcades and had an independent non Nintendo brainwashed 90s fighting game mentality and you learned how to play KoF and Virtua Fighter and even Fighting Vipers you would appreciate the effort...you can criticize but if you don't support games they simply DO NOT GET SEQUELS
Thats why you got all this crap generation of Call of Duty and clones.
Have you forgotten that these classic games like Street Fighter, King of Fighters, Tekken, Virtua Fighters, Fighting Vipers, etc started out on a single specific hardware platform?
It's been three years since the PS4 was released...remember all that "easy to dev for" hype? the seventh CPU core was unlocked by Sony dev kit devs early last year and the hardware is well documented...
Making 3d polygon games is NOT easy or cakewalk other wise we would see these "homebrew liars hackers" actually produce real videogames instead of piracy enable or cheat enables.
Hell even making 2d graphics isn't easy because when they made Guilty Gear and King of Fighters last gen, the resolution demanded higher quality art assets which results in a lot of time to develop that art...just like each premium car in Gran Turismo 5/6 takes a month or so to model.
And Doom is a pretty good old school throwback with beautiful visuals ;)
That was a great console, extremely well designed...might even have been more powerful if SEGA had not rushed and leaked their Katana/Blackbelt tech specs from not having proper NDAs and wasting time with overhyped companies...had Sega waited and designed their console for 2000 or 2001 and had more power then Sony would follow suit...
Still the PS2 had amazing graphics for it's time...that you use it to devalue it shows some hypocrisy.
PS3 had two fine and full of art and gameplay King of Fighters and they were both 2d graphics...did you buy them then brand new at launch or did you just wait for bargain bin cause you were too busy playing CoD?
Look at the SNK art style of the 90s that is what this game is targetting...Im using a large computer monitor to see the gameplay and graphics...and it's a work in progress not a final build.
Also everyone knows that fighting games improve with sequels...was Street Fighter IV perfect? was Street Fighter 1 perfect?
but yes, i bought KOF XIII New (XII was too bare bones for it to be worth anyones money and it's online code was fucking pathetic to be honest with you) i like KOF more than any other fighter, and ultimately the reason i even own games like capcom vs SNK2. XIII was practically perfection both gameplay and visually. but this...this looks like a steaming turd...i've seen better looking free to play fighters. if they can't be arsed to put the effort into making it look as nice as their LAST GAME...then i can't be arsed to put the effort into opening my wallet. it's not that difficult of a concept to grasp, even for you.

Neo Geo came out in Japan in late 80s, early 90s and of course was a pure 2d console that destroyed anything until the Sega Saturn plus the 4MB Cartridge and in theory the N64+4MB expansion pack however the latter barely got 2d games, let alone true 2d fighting games.
The guy who helped create Street Fighter 1 at Capcom, left to be part of SNK.
There he created and designed Fatal Fury series and Art of Fighting series.
Fatal Fury takes place on a tournament called "The King of Fighters" and this is evident in all ports or conversions to rival or lesser consoles.
Then in 1994, late in that year was when The King of Fighters 94 was actually released...four years AFTER the Neo Geo console was out in retail and Arcades.
Meaning as dev team, they were practically masters of the Neo Geo hardware...now do yourself a favor and compare games on any console, even the crappiest ones and games developed by experienced first/second and even third party devs.
Did you play Contra Hard Corps? that is a MegaDrive/Genesis game doing features once thought to ONLY be done by SNES Mode 7.
Now SNK-Playmore has tried making a 3d King of Fighters game before and even Sega's Genki team made a launch era Virtua Fighter 3TB with a simulated team match.
So far unless proven otherwise, they are trying to revisit and revive the franchise because apparently despite being multi-platform (it actually costs more money to make and more to recoup) and being a 2d masterpiece, the game just did not sell enough copies outside Japan while in Japan sales are as usual but weren't stellar.
So this KoF is getting whiny and rather tiresome internet hate and dislike...so who should the devs trust? the vocal fans? Seems like they didn't buy KoF XIII or really were veterans of the KoF series to know that the games are really all about gameplay with it's OWN fighting game system that is NOT a Street Fighter clone.
So far as I have analyzed whenever I get a chance all the videos from gamersyde, I see a lot of potential and capturing of the spirit of the old 2d games but like Street Fighter IV series...some special moves and bam! 3d polygon zooming and what not.
Gameplay looks spot on for something that's a work in progress and if you know fighting games...they improve every year.
Now look at the nostalgia with Doom and how that game plays a lot like a mash up of CoD...and I didn't see any detractors saying anything about why Mars human habitat lacks sections with trees and green parks or rivers and wild life brought over from Earth...after all we already have farms here right? all the stages have the same repeating color palette...and NO ONE really complained about that detail.
hell there should have been a snow level.

are you fucking kidding me? you're like one of those morons who bring gameplay talk into a graphics discussion on gaf. learn to differentiate gameplay complaints and graphical ones. lol
