Just found out this will play like mafia 2. Too bad its not free roam like GTA. And also this game is published by rockstar and not developed by them so I guess thats part of the reason.

I think you're mistaken. This game is free-roam; as in you can roam about the city as you please, and save anywhere.

Although you can't just go mental with a gun like in GTA and, whilst there are some side crimes to play and collectables, there may not be a whole lot to do beyond the main cases of which there are 22 and they are non linear.

So yea, to say it's like Mafia 2 is pretty inaccurate.

What I never get is when the PEGI says 'nudity'. How can there be nudity? There aren't real people in games. Do they mean nude textures?

Anyhow, it's looking good. I just wonder if it will grab my attention from beginning to end. There must be some repetition in it if there are 22 main cases.
You get to see a dead female body naked, vagina and everything. It's been mentioned in previews.

That wasn't my point. I mean: they are just textures, it's not nudity. It wasn't meant to be taken so seriously also ;o)
Well you know, Americans are very prudish when it comes down to these things. Same for swearing. You can say f*ck anytime over here (Belgium) on national tv or they show you videos from people on tv in the US and curse like the Oscars recently and we won't give a damn.

Does that mean we are terrible persons compared to Americans? Hell no. :)

Rockstar are truly pushing the boundaries of what I thought was visually possible this gen with open world games. People will proclaim Crysis 2 as the king of visual fidelity for open world games, but Red Dead Redemption is CLEARLY (and I emphasise CLEARLY), THE GREATEST LOOKING open world game I've seen to date and LA Noire seems to have probably surpassed it..

I wouldn't say American's as a whole are "prudish", just the damn politicians and the elder folk who make the most noise about things they don't like. Most of the younger generation realize how ridiculous it is to have no problem with exposing kids to violence and murder, but then freak out because a piece of skin is exposed. Give it a few years, and our laws will be very similar to those in Europe.

Anyway, I'm still undecided about this game. They say things like "it will take a skilled detective to determine who is telling the truth and to determine guilt or innocence, but I read many previews that state each mission ends with the same results regardless. What does it matter then, if no matter what you think, the same person ends up behind bars?

I was really hoping you could put the wrong man in prison, and if you screwed up badly enough, eventually the main bad guy could get away. Instead, it seems we get our hand held the whole game to ensure we get the "right" results. Doesn't sound to groundbreaking to me....

Each case narrative is non-linear. If you miss clues or don't interrogate people successfully the investigation will take an alternative path. But yes I think most cases will work themselves out. But I also think I've read that it is possible to arrest the wrong man in certain cases. I am guessing that the worse you play a case and the longer you take the more hand helping the game will do to get you to the end.

You can also turn off all the little hints that the game can give during investigation; which I will most defiantly be doing.

wait, so cases just work themselves out regardless of how well you do? i hope there are at least some sort of consequences for poor choices, for example arresting the wrong guy, so the real killer remains at large and continues to commit murders, which you then have to link back to the original murder by looking for similarities between victims/methods and then solve that case to catch the real killer etc etc.

I'd hate for this games detective and interrogation gameplay to be completely inconsequential. it would make the experience so much less then it could have been. hope that isn't the case.

Not sure about that. Bovril says otherwise, but I read multiple previews and developer interviews that stated the cases will all end the same way. Someone specifically asked the developers if you could arrest the wrong man, and they basically said no the cases all end the same way.

They made it sound like it may take longer if you suck, but you will still get the same result. Kinda disappointing, as I was hoping this game would have branching paths, multiple outcomes...

@KORNdog:

Well yea, the cases do work out eventually. It's not like this game is a hardcore role playing game or anything, there is still a pretty linear over arcing narrative over the 22 cases. And it's not that the gameplay is inconsequential, there many ways to solve each case. And the speed at which you can solve them will be dictated by your effectiveness at investigating and interrogating.

I am unsure about the consequences, I don't imagine there are any apart from a low score on the particular case. I don't really see a need.

that's seriously disappointing. there really is no need for the interrogation or evidence finding gameplay if it all boils down to catching the guy and solving the case. how are they even going to explain that or make it seem natural? will an interrogation scene simple keep going until you ask the correct question (which would make it feel incredibly artificial) will an evidence scene keep going infinitely until you pick up the one, vital piece of evidence needed? if you miss the clues will someone just run over and say "oh BTW, i found this, you seemed to have missed it, it could help with the case"

i dunno, it's sounding a bit dumbed down to me, and certainly sounding like a lot of the gameplay will feel largely inconsequential. hope all this is just hearsay tbh. cos i'll be disappointed if this is how the game is actually going to be.
