This won't be a wait-and-see for me, because I know critics love Rockstar no matter what. But a demo would be nice, like it was for Heavy Rain.
I wager this'll have much more in common with Team Bondi's own The Getaway games than people seem prone to believe.
I really hope theres not alot of hand holding..and consequences for your actions. Heavy Rain was very structured but it still offered the illusion of choice
This is gonna be less linear than Mafia and The Getaway both though, we know that much.
As for Heavy Rain having illusion of choice, I reckon it's more about consequence than choice. It's such a reaction based game with reflex/spontanious actions it's kind of this game that wraps around who you are and your genuine reaction to things. It doesn't slow down to let you make conscious, calculated decisions. When those on the fly choices then have consequences - that are very dynamic in how much/little they allow you to screw up, to boot - it puts immense pressure on your performance and that's what creates the suspense. When you know you're constantly causing butterfly effects that may well get people killed or alter your path - and the fact that those effects are initally ambiguous - there's actually a sense of investment there. I don't really feel like I ever consciously "chose my adventure" or anything. I was just reacting to things and holding on to my butt, sweating bullets. Oh and I *actually grit my teeth* when slamming down on a pair of scissors to cut my finger off. I.. yeah. Don't ask me why I thought using scissors was a good idea. :P
AAaaannnnNNNyyhooOOOoo. My point about being like The Getaway was mainly that it's still a game where you're driving around to mission markers and shooting dudes in the face. Possibly-but-not-definitely with a somewhat questionable cover mechanic ala The Getaway. Heavy Rain is more akin to a point and click adventure, but instead of clicking on things you walk up to them and do contextual button presses. Button presses and interactions based on a unified language enabling the game to throw absolutely anything at you instead of needing to fall back on mechanics. That way it's allowed to evolve constantly in terms of your interactions, circumventing the crux that - for instance - narrative heavy shooters have of *being forced* to alternate between story and shooting a bazillion dudes no matter how narratively unsound the shooting is.
And the hats don't cast a shadow. The forehead is much to bright unter the flap.
That kills the realism of the perfect captured faces. Very recognizable in the trailers. Some person look very real, others look still fake.
And just watch the trailers. The face animations of people standing still or sitting look very real while on walking people it looks a bit odd.
Body language and facial expressions play together. If you record it separatly you get strange effects.

they have said in previews that you cannot shoot at people and that you obey traffic laws (aside from chase sequences), and it seems to keep you from doing all the ridiculous stuff you could do in every other rockstar game. which i can respect, as it really plays well into this sort of game, but what happens when i finish the story and all its side quest? i can see myself getting bored of this really quickly if i cannot mess around with the open world such as getting in trouble with the cops or just shooting and blowing up random stuff. also, no multiplayer in here like their recent GTA IV and Red Dead.
I just really hope i get my moneys worth out of this game. i didn't feel like heavy rain was worth its full price, as i really did enjoy the story but did not want to replay the entire game again as the whole quick time sequences got old and i mostly found myself playing just for the story itself rather then gameplay.
Too much of this is left with a question mark for me yet.. plus i want to see if one of the versions gets the short end of the stick..as has been the norm with rockstar's games
