If the main character was tired of being there. I.e. just as bored and sick of having to kill the same fucking alien-bastards from hell that he did (and everyone else) in the last 3 games. I.e. sick of it. I.e. Not again. I.e. Bruce Campbell in Army of Darkness. I.e. the reluctant hero that happens to kick ass. I.e. hopelessly stuck protagonist at wit's end. I.e. not predictable bad-ass. I.e. go back to school!

This is a reimagining of the original Doom. Same way Doom 3 was. It's not a sequel. The Hell invasion has only taken place, so how can Doom Guy be tired of fighting demons when he didn't even know they existed? This is the first contact, hence why it's called 'Doom' and not Doom 4.
BTW, your first sentence is an oxymoron of sorts.
[Disclaimer] I'm not calling you a moron.
I don't like it either. It's neat looking but it looks overpowered and it breaks up the action (what action?) too much.
Automation rarely makes an action game better.
Oldschool ftw in that sense.
I just hope the shooting is fun between the canned animations, and that they are at least optional.
Either way, I just thought it would be interesting to have him as more than an eyebrow raising one-dimensional badass, you know. Hell, even making him an escaped mental patient would be a change.
(don't get me wrong, I like the series. Own all the games, etc. Even Rage. I'm a huge id fan. I'm just thinking out loud on this.)
@megido: Oldschool ftw in all senses, megido. In all senses... oh, the that satisfying feeling of ending a boss.

All the fancy CG in the world cant mask how shite Bays Transformer movies are, in teh same way, lame "cinematic" bits don't actually make a bland game better. Just flashier.

And no one complained about the Wolfenstein reboot.
Ofc it's tough to do that. that's why great games are great, and mediocre ones are just that. Now ofc i can't say anything about the game as i haven't played it yet. It just seems like a bit of a thing when it comes to big AAA games today, that the moment to moment gameplay takes a backseat to cinematics and set pieces. I think this is utter fucking garbage, and it's not what i think ID have been known to do, which makes it stand out even more in this case. Not saying that ID makes perfect games or anything, but at least they tend to put gameplay first and use cinematics and such in service of that.
Also worth pointing out is that adding cinematic finishers doesn't really change the game up at all. It just wrestles control away from the player for a bit while going "Look at me! Look at me!". Gameplaywise that changes nothing, other than to drag the pacing down.
Grift; good point. The New Order was pretty sweet, and it wasn't overly reliant on dumb gimmicks either. It was just a fairly solid, fun shooter.
