Football - or soccer - fans all got their hands on the Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 demo yesterday and though we're a bit late - as we were at the games show in Paris yesterday - here are two videos of the 360 version. We'll start with a match opposing France to Italy but I'll add a video of a match between Barcelona and Liverpool as soon as possible. I captured these two videos in the hardest difficulty setting.
Update: The DE2 server should be working now.
First of all, it is worth mentioning that the demo seems to be the exact same one we saw in Cologne. The animations are still stiff and robotic and the controls are a bit awkward, as if the players were army tanks instead of human beings. I also found the collisions between the players to be very odd at times, same with the way the ball reacts when it gets stuck between two players. The goal keeper also has a surprising lack of efficiency and you will find yourself yelling at him more than once because he either dropped the ball or simply missed it.
Hopefully, when it comes to the visuals, the game really shines. It almost comes as a surprise to see that, not only has Konami managed to level up to EA's standards but they have even done a better job in some areas. The faces look stunning, the stadiums and pitch look good and even the crowd is not bad at all, considering you don't get to see it that much. What's more, the replays are also way better than in Fifa 10: they have good camera angles, they are varied - and many - at the end of a match while in Fifa, you more than often get to see very little of the highlights of the match. Eventually, the blur effects also feel more natural in the different cutscenes or replays than in Fifa 10.
So, what to think of this demo in the end? After playing it quite a bit, I have to say I am not convinced yet because the game still suffers from too many flaws. Now, word on the web is that the demo is actually from an old build and that the final version will be much, much better - with, for example, some new motion captured animations. Why then give players a reason to doubt the quality of the game by releasing such a demo? I don't know, but I still had fun playing it so I'm guessing PES fans will be content with this first try. Anyway, we'll find out soon enough as I plan on capturing some videos of the retail version as soon as the game is released. And there will be no more excuses then.

Anyway, I'm still having lots of fun with it and find it strangely addictive.
I really like it... reminds me of the old days with pes..playing with mates.
I'm not blind to its short comings though.. the AI is very hit and miss (regardless of difficulty).. goalkeepers are especially poor.. diving at crawling balls..and missing.
Visuals i cant fault, Commentry i expect to be second rate when compared to fifa which must hold the most impressive commentry work of any sports game. Online though will be really where it will count as a "buy" or not for me.. Pes doesnt have the most flattering record when it comes to online being up to scratch
That's all I'm going to say :)
*let the FIFA vs PES battle commence*
first of all the ambient sound is just horrible, the referee with his rugby whistling, the crappy supporter songs and the ball basket-style noises...
Graphics are very good though, players are looking like their real model, but there is always a big lack in animations.
Ball physics just sucks, the same thing since PES2008...
When I play this, I really feel like playing with some robots/playmobils, I really have no feelings, the players don't seem to respond to my commands, that's really weird :/ they are stuck in rails and do their runs, I really don't like it.
I guess it will be a FIFA year again
Having said that... i do still prefer it to the fifa 10 demo. Pes just feels more solid.. the ball feels like it has weight to it. Fifa 10's new improved 360 movements welcome but it also brings about a strange feeling of "lightness" to the game.. i cant really explain it.
R.I.P Pro Evolution Soccer 1994 - 2006
While this has arguably better graphics than FIFA(!) the animations are still based on the same robotic engine that was introduced practically 10 years ago. The way they run, dribble, pass, shoot and try to control the ball is no less than a caricature of football. I don't know why they made such a big deal about motion-capturing Messi when in the end he glides around the pitch like a hunchback on steroids. Sorry, but in this time and age there is no excuse for animations and transitions which – stripped off their next-gen visuals – would neatly fit into a PS1 game.
The one thing next to the looks that I prefer over FIFA is the net physics. They're about the only thing in the demo that is realistic. Everything else is just the same old PES overpatched to death without ever addressing the fundamental flaws in the engine.
but the truth is - both games are crap. pes is not so good...and fifa is crappy crap.
its every year the same...hate it or love it...but this year after yesterday playing the demo 2hrs..i love fifa more than PES.
i'm kind of tired of this response-time issue shit.
