Video Xbox 360 PS3

Today is not a day like any other, it's Sonic's birthday and he is 20 years old already. That's precisely why SEGA released a demo of Sonic Generations for us to have a sneak peek at what's to come. You should find everything you've been looking for for years as a Sonic fan, the music, the sound effects, the sense of speed and above all, the fun. Promising!

Pretty though this is, 30fps destroys this game completely. Side scrollers NEED 60fps, anything less just looks terrible. This is a juddery mess.

Sorry Sega, this is yet another Sonic mistake.

It does look promising. Few tid bits. The physics are still off some but certainly better than Sonic 4's physics. Frame rate is not up to par(at least not on the PS3 version i played), their was definitely drops and it seems to be running at 30fps. Shouldn't this be at 60fps? It was short, i thought the modern sonic part was going to be in the demo but oh well. Graphics wise it looks great. Overall, i hope they address some physics concerns i know fans are already bitching about on forums likely lol(who am i kidding tho, Sega won't address them.lol.) but the game has me looking forward to playing the final product(and please address the frame rate, my goodness).

Well they seem to be pulling alot of effects for a fast paced side scroller that might have alternate angle viewpoints.
I mean sure I could insist on 60fps too but we need to know what else is going on, there might be a split screen mode too.

nice backgrounds, but a bit pointless when you're moving through them so quickly.

Clearly you didn't grow up playing the old ones

This looks fantastic imo. You picky bastards and your framerate. Movement/framerate looks just fine.

I was never a huge fan of Sonic although the older gamestyle is his strongest suit.

It's just not a very strong suit to begin with and as a platformer the mechanics quickly become limiting.

Looks good. I like the fact that it pans\zooms out, gives you better overall view. Huge sonic fan on the Megadrive but didn't like sonic 4 of few months back. perhaps this will be a good comeback.

My point been, that clearly your issue was not with sonic but with games from that era, so that would be pretty unfair to diss sonic on this problem when that problem was with 99% of the games from back then.

There was quite a bit more to Sonic than just blasting through the level left to right ( during the 16 bit era anyway) There where shortcuts, hidden rooms and Items, alternate routes, and platforming, so I'm thinking you haven't spent much time with the series. Hell, in Sonic 2, I could get all of the Chaos gems (thus unlocking Super Sonic) in the first level because there was so much more than you suggest.

I do agree that the frame-rate and responsiveness was a bit jarring at first, but I was used to it by the end of the demo. That music had me in Happy Nostalgia Land(tm)...

The Sonic stages/bosses were leaked and unfortunately they didn't have ice cap. Kinda disappointing. Even the fun casino stage from Sonic 2 was dlc only.

Should be mentioned 360 ver. of the demo has a far more stable framerate, and PS3 ver. also seems to have significant input lag comparatively.

yeah, you miss all the goodies if you take the quickest route through the levels. It's fun to see how fast you can blaze through sometimes, though.

The framerate definitely is an issue sadly, though it really plays promising. The uberfast speed and 30fps just don't mix so well. If the game was a bit slower like the Genesis Sonics i think the 30fps wouldn't hurt it as much, as they do now. Don't get, why they made it this fast btw. since it really becomes impossible to react to anything at max speed.

to be honest i cant see what all the fuss is about, so what a few frame rate drops and 30 fps this isnt cod FFS its sonic, i think its a good thing keeping it at 30fps at 60fps you would constantly over shoot platform swings ect and it would become extreemly frustrating, this will certainly be refreshing for older gamers whaer as young gamers just want to constantly kill every thing.

Looks gorgeous when it's not moving. 30 frames is just fine for most stuff but a 2d Sonic is definitely not one of those. Some 2d scrollers are fine even and of course you expect it for intense 3d games for the most, but Sonic is just way too fast for it to be this low

Lots of people are going to be hacked off with this i expect unless they fall into the category that believes the human eye can't tell differences between the two

30 frames is an acceptable choice with lots of games but it really stinks here
