Nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing can come close to Polyphony's obsessive attention to detail. The models are incredibly consistent in style and execution. I am always floored by the work of their art department. They must have some insanely strict guidelines to make the cars look like they've been modeled by the same artist.
Some might argue that Polyphony spend three months on each vehicle so that's where the quality is coming from, but I'd be willing to bet that most developers couldn't come up with the same polished and consistent look given the same timeframe.
These are sad times for Gran Turismo's competitors; it's time to go back to the drawing board and reconsider how they manage and execute their art. The king is in town...
and gameplay = unchanged from GT1, come on, update and improve already, F2 set new levels for physics in a console racer, this needs to follow, no more bumper cars damn it

GT5 has in-car views, you don't consider that an improvement? And how can you claim it has the same gameplay as the original GT when you haven't played it...?
Looks gorgeous. Then again, GT games always looked gorgeous in their replay modes, not so much during actual gameplay.
Cockpit shots are rather underwhelming. Cockpits themselves are nice, but what you can see through the windshield doesn't look that great. By the way, rear-view mirrors are obviously not implemented correctly yet. :)

have you even played any of the games? The games have always looked great in motion. WHile the rear view mirror looks terrible, the interior modelling looks a cut above pgr.
From the latest batch of GT 5 prologue shots I like at most:
- all the the cars stills
- the garage shots
- photomode/PR shots
I don't like:
-flat looking and somehow jaggy environments in cocpit shots (looks like these shots are from real gameplay? And I think the HDR effects are off in these shots
-the trees and foliage are horrible, sorry
-photographic textures on buildings in plaza screenshots

I didn't play them, but I've seen enough videos and read enough articles to know that there is a noticeable difference. I never said that they didn't look good, just not nearly as good as in the replay mode. That's not my opinion, by the way, that's a documented fact - the replay mode cuts the frame rate by half and applies additional anti-aliasing and other filters.

A cut above PGR 3, maybe. We've seen no PGR 4 car cockpit shots yet, at least as far as I know.
Maybe in past games the replay mode has looked better...but i had this discussion with a mate when GT:HD came out..we looked very closly at the graphics while driving, and then compared them tothe replay..there was no difference at all; the replay, in any racing game just allows you to appretiate the graphics more, you'll see more of the front of the car, the environments and at different angles...it may look better, but if you look closely its exact;y the same, and im sure this will follow through to GT5.
To you fools commenting about the dodgy environments...this is like a demo! just like GT:HD was..this isn't GT5 wait for some real GT5 shots. And was someone compaining about the buildings?!? too photorealistic? dumbest thing i've heard, the buildings look stunning! best looking buildings in any racing game..even PGR4.

Oh well, you are right, this is demo for upcomming GT5, you can choose from 40 cars and 4 tracks, but you have to pay for that. WTF?
And please, if I don't like efforts of totaly photorealistic environments, just live with it, it is my opinion you fool. I like when there is a little more artistic involvement. That's it.
But again, seems if someone says something bad about GT, in next moment come usually attack.

Actually, I couldn't disagree more. Look at some GT:HD replay videos posted on GT (for instance, that incredible Xanavi clip) and then look at some gameplay footage. Night and day. The difference is even more apparent in still shots.
Beautiful, just beautiful. I can’t wait to get back into Gran Turismo! I just hope I can afford both it and the best racing wheel for consoles, the Logitech G25, at the same time!

well considering its barely changed since the first game, i dont exactly have high hopes of this changing either
Bubububullshot! I see the PGR3 syndrome here, photo mode shots look INCREDIBLE and ingame shots look very, very ordinary.
The cockpit is fab though and the lighting on the cars is great ingame as well.
I'm glad theyre putting out the Prologue because the hype surrounding this game is ridiculous. It's good to have MORE concrete evidence that its just a game and just a limited game console like the OTHERS.
Uhhh... the cars infront look like they're covered in plastic, and the aliasing is awful. Generally when you increase resolution, the need for AA is reduced... apparently not in this.
citizenx: only if the SCREEN SIZE used for viewing remains the same. If you take a native 720p shot and a 1080p shot with same effects on the SAME SCREEN at 1:1 pixel size the amount of jaggies wont be reduced because the perceived pixel resolution is not increased, it just expands beyond the screen or on a wider area.
But if you take the two images and resize them to fit the tv screen (lets assume its 1080p) then the 1080p image will have less jaggies because the actual pixels are smaller.
Even more so, if the tv screen is less than 1080p the needed downscaling will reduce artifacts (aka supersampling .. much like the bububububullshots above).
