Xbox 360 PS3

Activision unleashed James Bond: Quantum of Solace on all major platforms last week, and here for your enjoyment is the First 10 Minutes of the game. I was hoping for something good, but it left me quite disappointed. Treyarch put in tons of features, but the majority of them works poorly.

Like the cover system, where barriers full of holes can cover you from every bullet - or the melee QTE moments, which takes you much longer time to execute than just shooting the enemy. The graphics are average and it plays like any regular shooter out there.

There's tons of scripted moments, and the enemies are just rolling around in the corridors like trained ninjas. Don't get me wrong, the game is a solid action shooter, but that's about it - and I can't help to wish that they used the James Bond license better.

lol, i checked it out and your right, it SOUNDS like the car is going 200mph, but it LOOKS like its going about 5...lol.

the start made me lol so hard. "mr white" "hello, who is this", *shot in the leg, plays cheesey bond music*

so lame.

I don't know why you two are overly concerned about pedantic stuff like wrong car engine noise in context, and cheesy music, although I can see where not paying attention to such minor details can invariably lead to other basic stuff going array.

Let's not forget, that at it's core, QoS intends to be a solid FPS, or at least attempt to be the first real solid Bond FPS title since GE. To be honest, it was never going to stand a chance, and not because of the nostalgic rose tinted sentiments that surrounds Rare's stellar masterpiece of a movie game. The sheer fact that this IS a movie game, doesn't bode well for it. There are gripes I'm finding with it just watching the video, which smacks of mediocrity. Whereas GE did a masterful job of actually making you feel as if you were 007 himself by doing the familiar things such as starting you off with Bond's weapon of choice - the PPK, silenced of course - and imploring your to take the stealthy secret agent mentality, rather than the all guns blazing Rambo approach.

For a start, the fact that once you take cover in this game putting you into a GEARS-like 3rd person view detracts and disembodies, making the action seem less tense as it should be in any FPS. Although the aiming down the iron sights of the gun is now standard fare due to COD, it's just another thing that puts me off. I would certainly love to see the GE style of control, or at least give you the option for it, where you physically have to point with your hand to put a bullet where you want it to go instead of having a huge gun take up the entire screen as you move up, down, left and right. There's just something about it that isn't particularly satisfying, especially when shooting a pistol. I know bringing back the old GE aiming system would not please a lot of PC heads who love their frantic and perfect aiming, but for the single-player console enthusiast, I think it would help make the game feel more connected with the user. It's certainly one of the big secrets that most people fail to touch on when explaining why GE was such a massive success at the time. I mean, how satisfying was it to sneak behind a guard, pop a cap in his knee cap, watch him hop about, then shoot him in the foot and watch him limp some more, then moving your hand up and popping him in the dome with that satisfying *ping* you got from the helmet? Simple stuff, yet brilliant for sadists.

If you had kept watching, you'd discover that this might indeed be the next Goldeneye..

I was impressed actually, lots of stuff happening, nice destructible stuff going on. And the cover gameplay didnt seem crappy at all, like a blend between R6V and GoW.
Tough it seems it has the same control scheme as GoW, i hate the way GoW does cover lol, its so much more analogue with R6V's left trigger rather than the stiff A button ^_^
"Noo dont slide to that wall, i wanted to sprint! :@"

Could we get a gameplay vid of some multiplayer, class loadouts and stuff?

another thing i found funny is that the first thing bond uses as cover is a concrete barrier with gaps that a small child could fit through, yet bullets cant...lol.

reviews have been average at best, so the "new goldeneye" this certainly is not. which was pretty much obvious right from the start imo.

I've heard some good things about this game. But I stopped watching after the first minute because I haven't seen the film yet, and I don't want to ruin it for myself.

The problem is that you simply can't take cover against some objects, it's really weird. They just let you cover against the major things. And when you're covered, you can just aim out the enemy and then shoot, it's too precise. I mean, if I would be behind cover, do you think it would be possible to just jump up and shoot a headshot?

It's always tricky to do multiplayer videos, since it feels bad to put up people's gamertags through videos.
