If this and Mass Effect are both Bioware, how come Mass Effect is 360 exclusive? I love Bioware and everything they've done, so I'm more happy that Dragon Age is coming to the PS3 than I am disappointed that ME2 isn't, but still, I want them BOTH!

Oh well, this looks pretty cool (especially when you turn into a spider! wtf?!), and I really enjoy the behind-the-scenes sort of stuff. I wish more developers would do this kind of thing, and I wish that those that did would go more in-depth, or include it on more collector's editions, like New Line did with the LotR DVDs. I could watch this stuff for hours!

My interest/anticipation for this game has been somewhat of a rollercoaster: I started off incredibly excited by it, then the constant mixture of over-the-top bloody action and horrendous metal music - as showcased in the trailers - put me right off, but my interest has recently shot back up in light of the impressive reviews and general talk of the game.

I'm a sucker for anything within the realm of medieval fantasy, so I'll no doubt be buying this. Bioware never let me down anyway.

I'm quite the opposite actually. Anything medieval and my anticipation goes down a couple of notches. Still, I'll await the reviews and some more footage to make up my mind on this one.

I'm just more into sci-fi RPG's and unfortunately, they're extremely rare. :(

Well there's nothing wrong with that; it's just a difference in tastes. I do love the sci-fi genre, especially in video games - this is primarily down to Halo and Mass Effect, as well as other titles in the genre - but I will always favour anything within the medieval fantasy genre. You can thank Tolkien for that.

I rather like my medieval with a little more thought than Tolkien-esque. There is much more you can do than to pull orcs and elves into it :P Just look at Terry Goodkind, George R. R. Martin, Robert Jordan, and especially Brian Sanderson( who is writing the last Wheel of Time Book- out next week!!!) who's stuff is so interesting and original...

Because Microsoft is paying for it or Sony is not paying at all. Pick the one you like most.
You can still play both: On PC.
Dragon Age will probably be better on PC anyway.

Well Dragon Age uses the same 'props' of Tolkien fantasy - Orcs, Elves etc. - but rewrites the formula, so to speak. For instance, Elves are usually regarded as an elegant and upper class race, but in DA they're actually slaves to the other races. I don't really blame them for using existing fantasy elements, but I agree that it would have been nice to see some original races/creatures.

Tolkien's work is still the best though. :)

Are there any non-medieval fantasy games? That is, a game with orcs and elves and dragons, but takes place in modern day or even the future? What about, say the Renaissance?

That's the only beef I have with fantasy--once you see dragons, you know everything else you're going to see--knights in armor, big stone castles, caves/dungeons, swords and magic spells, all in a fallen empire that must be somehow restored, probably with a magical stone or something. Is there anything wrong with shooting a dragon with a laser? Or more appropriately, a flame thrower?

Shadow Run is a good example of steampunk crossed with fantasy, but there's also some Japanese stuff like Phantasy Star and some of the Final Fantasy games that blend science fiction and fantasy.
