Xbox 360

I've finally received my Lost Odyssey copy yesterday (#@$# French post) and quickly went to the point where DjMizuhara's console died so that I could record some new videos. Here is the first one, showing some real gameplay with fights, with of course more to come.

I love these videos :D Thanks so much BlimBlim.

The battle music in this game is great, you get this nice vibe from it, and the cut scenes as usual are beautifully done. (Lol @ Jansen's pose at the end of the video)

I wonder if we'll see Kelolons in every Mistwalker game, they're cute and funny.

Geez! I gotta say fellas.. after playing FFXII this game is a huge step back in the RPG genre!

Everything about this game is average at best! I bet Blue Dragon is more fun than this.

Of course being a huge RPG and Xbox 360 fan my hopes are that eventually the game will turn out to be a quite stellar one!

Uh...huh...

It's a matter of perspective. For me FF12 ranks as one of the most unmemorable FFs ever made. I couldn't stand playing that game.

I kind of a agree with this FFXII at least tried something new, and after playing the awesome mass effect i am going to have a hard time to go back to the old j-rpg formula, and apart from the music i just don't see why lost odyssey is so special, the graphics are really nice but the design is pretty generic and just doesn't appeal to me.

I thought FFXII was an embarrassment to the series name and should've never been called Final Fantasy XII in the first place. FFXII was a huge step back for the Final Fantasy series in almost every regard and this game on the other hand looks much more deserving of the name.

Regarding your "everything about this game looks average at best" comment I think you are trying way too hard. That comment alone shows you don't really have any remote interest in this game so I think you would've been better not adding this part
"my hopes are that eventually the game will turn out to be a quite stellar one!"
since you don't mean it :)

The comparison of Lost Odyssey with Final Fantasy is inevitable, people, and anyone is entitled to their opinion. When it comes to mine, I thought the change in direction for the combat system in Final Fantasy XII to an MMO style was a big mistake for the series and by the looks of it, FF XIII is going to follow suit and I dont like that ..... BUT.......at the end of the day, I do love my JRPGs mainly because of their story, art, music, CG & characters so I'll learn to deal with the combat system. Final Fantast XII, however, didnt even deliver story-wise IMO and that's why up to this day I can't complete it.

I'll definately give this game a try. Not a huge JRPG fan but i'm willing to see where it takes me. The one thing I like about the turn based combat is the strong strategy element it brings to the gameplay. I can see playing this game as a way to relax while I lose myself in the journey they've created. Like someone mentioned I think Mass Effect has set the standard as far as ANY rpg goes but Lost Odyssey looks to be unique in its own right and well worth a playthrough.

Almost everyones saying, "I LOVE THIS GAME. Can't wait to play it!" How does that even make sense...

You can love the trailers..not the game. You can't love a game before you play it or before it comes out.

I agree with the first point (FF12), but not with the second (BD). FF12 was one of the worst in the series, yet it still feels more refined than LO. But to say that BD is better than LO? That game had NOTHING going for it. LO at least has the unique plot. If the FF games had these kinds of plotlines instead of the whole rebel alliance thing in each one, they'd be perfect.

Seriously how can anyone say Mass Effect has set the standard they are two completely different games, Mass Effect was nothing more than a shooter with a strong story in my eyes.

Now if you are happy with playing everything as a shooter then that fine, but some of us want something different from our games.

So ME didn't set any standard IMO.

As for FF12 like many have mentioned it was a borefest, I liked the world design, but the story and combat was horrible, I hear FF13 is going back to its roots with turn based combat, so I guess thats taking a step back too huh ?

Im all for that :D

I agree, But thats what you get when a game is development for 6 years, it should be polished.

If you seriously think that mass effect is a shooter yuo should read up on the defention of an rpg :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playing_game
mass effect is more of a rpg than any square game since you actually play it as a character that has an influence on the game world rather than just going from turnbased fight to the next cutsene without having any ability to change the plot in any way.

I love j-rpgs but im not sure if they should be called rpgs at all.

Maybe FF12 was more refined and polished, but there´s some aspects... Think It was empty of emotion and feel, the relationship between characters was a little low, and the story was not deep to me... The combat sistem, art style, graphics, music...all of that liked me, and the animations... the best I´ve have seen in a rpg.
Lost Odyssey is a traditional jrpg, turn based combat, great graphics, great art-direction, awesome soundtrack, emotional/dramatic story, decent at times and nice at times animations (The drunken Jansen´s secuence shows some AWESOME animations in fact)
I would like to see that persons, who complain about the turn based combat in lost odyssey... What they will say about FFXIII when it comes out? (If combat is turn based too in FFXIII of course) ¬¬

I heard that in ff13 will be ff12 combat style(((
but i hope story will be great
anyway, now we have two Final Fantasy series - LO and FF itself. I think it is very positive

The story seems absolutely brilliant. And it's good to see characters with real emotions. Even when the hero (forgot his name) just stands there doing nothing, his eyes tell a whole story alone. The other characters look interesting, too.

I don't know why LO should be a step back in the RPG genre. The gameplay of ego-shooters is the same it was ten years ago, but Crysis or HL2 wouldn't be considered as a step back. I like the old JRPG gameplay. And it's refined and polished with a few more options (like Blue Dragon was).
There is a difference between western RPGs and japanese RPGs. The japanese first and foremost want to be entertained by a brilliant story, whereas we want to see good graphics and much influence on the course of the game (which often results in irrelevance).
