Images PS3

Sony just released these brand new images of God of War 3 proving that Kratos will face big problem next March. No doubt he will manage to prove that size definitely does not matter.

I still don't think it looks particularly good (well for a big PS3 exclusive that is), but damn that looks insane.

I think it looks pretty good technically. The ground texture looks kind of "meh" in the shots but i think that will be hard to notice while playing.

I want those people who were blown away in the forum thread to dare come here and say the same now.

Looks Good. Full stop. Very low resolution textures. Going for scale rather detail which I have no problem with but my god, there should be a limit. Those textures are simply unnacceptable.

Why?
could have something to do with the immense scale(affording crazy camera angle possibilities) and level of detail.

Nope there's nothing wrong with his eyes, yes the scale and the design are pretty insane, but people who claim "this is like a painting coming to life" need to tone down.. It looks very good but not amazing like some of you claim, some of those textures are very low res...

I'm not hating on this game. I'll buy it myself. But graphically this game is not beating games like Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2..

for the people in here that doubt the graphical prowess of this game for one reason or the other do yourselves a favour and take a look at the following 1080p versions of the screens and stop embarrassing yourselves. :P

@FireWire: And you base that on these screens? Judging by how excited every game journalist is about the graphics of GoW3, specially after seeing this latest trailer, than i think we can agree that these screens don't do the graphics of GoW3 justice.

No thank you, they are fine as they are. You can WOW on the scale of things in those screens and I wont say a thing but graphically speaking, this hardly qualifies as looking good in my book.

It's funny how you first insult people on their eyesight and then go on strengthening your point by posting screenshots that precisely show what the other person is trying to tell you.
Here let the person with the inferior eyesight point it out to you:

I can't base my thoughts about the graphics of this game on screenshots released by the company who's making the game :S

I think it goes both ways here, firewire whines about minuscule shite while others try to ignore obvious faults. You can't give Kraro's loincloth all the damn UV space, so don't criticize silly shit like that. Then again, having a big block of ground that would make a PS2 embarrassed right in your face isn't smart either. I guess they could learn a thing or two from Epic what with utilizing smart uv-tiling.

edit* uh, the UV-seam on the rock in the last pic is just terrible, how damn hard is it to just hide the seam on the other side?

Most games dont have the "screenshot" factor, but they have "motion" factor (unless they are doctored with).

They may look like crap on stills because then you can see everything for as long as you want and pinpoint all the good and bad, but once in motion were everything is moving its harder to do that but enjoy the visual effects and all the other tech stuff to make it more impressive.

you guys are really full of it, circling low res textures.lol
you think killzone 2 is better looking, when you can find low res textures out the ass in killzone 2.
goes to show that texture resolution is not the only ingredient in good graphics(not that the textures in GOW3 are by any means low res).

GENIUSES, those shots were to show the awesome scale of the game, not close up texture mapping, get a clue.
it's funny that you didn't try to circle the low res textures in this one http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2686/4285390764_a8b... lol

I was just trying to make a point that this game isn't going to be the most beautiful game ever.
But at the same time I think it does look good in other area's and the scale and the design are insane.
Like I said before I'm not hating the game here. I'm probably gonna buy it day one.
I just don't like people posting things like this is supposedly the best thing since sliced bread... And telling other people to check their eye sight.

jmd: that shot has the same texturing "issues" as the other shots, it's just hidden better by the camera.

Firewire: i totally agree, the game looks good and it will probably be a nice action romp, but the fan buys also need to step down. It's not flawless and it's certainly no "painting come to life".

The game probably does what it does pretty well and you have to weigh things against each other when making a game. I totally understand why they would sacrifice some texture sharpness to bring the scale and grandeur to the game, in fact i don't even think the texture thing will be even remotely as noticeable when playing as in these shot, because the game will have other things to grab our attention. In that last pic you posted the foreground stuff looked pretty damn blurry and there is even a sloppy seam right on the face of the rock, but when playing your eyes will be glued to the advancing group of skeletons, Kratos and the titan in the background, you won't have time to notice that stuff.

Now you've just proven that:

A. You've missed my point
B. Even circling the low res area's wasn't enough, because you still deny there are any in GOW3.

and I second that. People seem to think we're trolling here when we're not. Like I said and others here said: The game looks good, fll stop but some of you are trying to make it a graphical benchmark.

But you know, at the end of the day, it's david jaffe who should be slapped when he said it looks like a painting coming to life!

FUCK THAT I HAVEN'T POSTED YET!

Seriously, though. As said before, this stuff won't matter as much in motion, the scale is still phenomenal, and the game being fun is what matters most.

Yes, some of those texture are PSP-grade (at best), but that alone won't break the game IMO.

as i said in the forum, while there are a couple of games that look better (uncharted 2/ killzone 2) it's cetainly a damn fine looking game and puts anything in this genre to shame. the scale is almost too much in some of those screens. the idea of fighting a boss, while on a titan that is itself climbing mount olympus...well, excited doesnt even really explain how that makes me feel. i can not freaking wait.

at any rate, i think a lot of what is making the textures look so low res, is the general LOD in that sort of scene. the camera is panned out so far in some scenes that there is no-way they are processing full close up level high res textures. this isnt a game where textures can be closely viewed like an FPS. the camera is going all over the place. in most of those screens kratos is the size of a pea. chances are at that distance kratos will have switched to a lower poly model, with lower res textures, same as the rest of the environment.

Some of this is clearly due to Depth of Field. But yeah, some of the textures aren't exactly pretty. ;)
