2K Games just sent us this first trailer of Mafia 2, and it's a good one at that! For those who wonder, it's the trailer they showed during the Game Convention, and yes, it's fully CGI. Anyway, the last batch of real-time screens looked great, so nothing to worry about.

CG? Damn! Not a good sign when you see a developer which previously didn't use any CG at all, now using CG to pimp their game

So many developers use CG these days though, it's not abnormal when the game is still quite a ways off.

A lot of times companies try to use CG they think the game will be close to looking like, like Bungie with Halo 3, Sony with Killzone, Motorstorm, F1, and GT5, and surprisingly, most of those have turned out fairly close to the original CG...

I'm surprised in CG, the beginning in the restaurant doesn't look CG. The puddle part looks CG but the talking cutscenes look realtime.
Considering the first Mafia I'm pretty sure they will come very close to this trailer in quality anyway.

After getting the HD version I guess I'll agree.. the trailer is CG. I hope they can come close to the graphics, especially the cutscenes anyway.

i think game developers are better off not releasing any trailer of their games if they're not ready to show the actual game to public. GTA IV is a good example of this. seeing the trailer in game after hearing nothing about it for so long was a big "wow".

No, that had quite a link to the game. It revealed the bubble shield and well, advertised the game, just like this one. So yes, even Bungie uses CG advertising.

That was a MS commericial that had CG Halo. Bungie themselves have only ever shown either in-game or in-engine footage.
