More downloadable content to come this time for Mafia 2. 2K Games announced that a first DLC will be exclusively available on Playstation 3 when the game launches on August 24 in North America and August 27 in Europe. Now don't start complaining about early DLC just yet as it will also be completely free of charge for those who purchase the game. Another DLC is already planned on all platforms but no pricing nor date have been revealed for now. Maybe this will help those who own the three platforms in their choice when the end of August comes. More details inside.
The Betrayal of Jimmy downloadable content, available exclusively for the PlayStation 3 system, will be accessible for free with voucher codes included with each new PlayStation 3 system copy of the game, or purchasable beginning on the day of Mafia II's launch through the PlayStation®Network for $9.99.
The Betrayal of Jimmy will take players into an alternate perspective of the mob through the eyes of Jimmy, a mercenary. Jimmy is the guy the other guys call when they need to finish the job. The Betrayal of Jimmy features dozens of intense newly created arcade-style, city-based missions that keep Jimmy driving, shooting and rampaging through Empire Bay. Missions will unlock as they progress, activating a slew of assassination and timed vehicle missions ending in dramatic shootouts and explosive car chases. Players will rack up points for performance, power slides, and skill shots. The scores will be immediately posted to the new leaderboard system, providing extensive re-playability, as players work to rise to the top of the ranks. Get to know Empire Bay - the executioner's way.
In Jimmy's Vendetta, which will be available for PlayStation 3 system, Xbox 360 and PC, players will get their hands dirty helping Jimmy clean up other people's messes. New city-based missions and locales will give players many new reasons to head back to Empire Bay. Jimmy's Vendetta will offer more replay action and allow players to outrank friends as they rise to the top of the leaderboard. Details on pricing and availability for Jimmy's Vendetta will be revealed at a later date.

face 2 palm.
I HATE the DLCs.
How can that possibly favour anybody? it certainly doesnt favour the gamers paying the same price for less content, and it surely doesnt favour the developers when those gamers start resenting such silly practices. And it's not like sony will be selling more consoles off the back of offering extra free content from games such as mafia 2, toy story, dead space 2.. Or that Microsoft will be selling consoles off the back of paid for timed exclusive dlc.
You have to wonder if the risk of alienating half your potential sales in favour of swaying those few lucky enough to already own both consoles to pick one version over the other is worth it for the publisher/developer
Another thing that pisses me off is when the sony fanboys now crawl out of the woodwork and complain that it's usually 360 owners that get the extra dlc content... which is all well and good, but 360 owners NEVER get more content out of the same price ps3 owners pay. I cant think of any dlc for a multiplatform game that has been offered as a free exclusive on the 360.
Anyway.. rant over.
Also, while developers do run the risk of alienating some of their fanbase, if they make a great game, at the end of the day it doesn't matter. They still get the sales. See Arkham Asylum as an example.
Oh, and don't forget licencing fees. Sony and MS make money off of copies sold. That is how most console manufacturers make a profit anyway (Nintendo makes a profit on the hardware itself). Every extra copy sold means extra cash.
Now i must wait and get that game for cheap price. Didn't want to give 'em $60 for less content.

Thank god I gave on all games that do this kinda of Mafia Scheme, and await for GOTY editions or just don't buy them at all.
I feel all of your pain regarding DLC. I didn't have a problem with DLC at first, but it's gotten out of control. Almost every time I buy a new game lately, I feel like parts were purposely left out so they could charge me more money later on down the road.
That reminds me... The evilest company of all, EA, has once again reared it's ugly head to take FULL advantage of ANY kind of DLC. I recently bought Tiger Woods 11, and EA purposely left courses out of this years game that were included in last years game lol. And guess what ? Those same courses were available to buy on day 1. So EA, giving people last years game with minor tweaks isn't easy enough anymore ? Now you want me to buy content that was included in last years game ?
Company's like EA are the reason DLC is so frustrating. Instead of giving back to the people who make their lights turn on everyday, they look for every chance to sucker us out of money. To me, the most frustrating part about the whole DLC situation, is now most company's have jumped right on board the DLC scam-wagon and found little ways to sucker gamers out of money.
To be fair...There are good company's out there that seem to always put out FULL games with worth while DLC. Fallout/Borderlands/ are a couple of good examples off the top of my head.
For example Activision is doing a timed exclusive 3 year old DLCs for the next 3 CoD games on 360 starting with Black Ops.
Thats overkill with exclusive DLCs. Sure it does come out later on PS3/PC, but fans (whats left of it LOL) is annoyed for sure.
But these "exclusive" BS DLCs are bullshit indeed.
And besides, content is removed by purpose to gain more money which is shit IMO, the content is already on disc but "locked".
There are rare DLC worthy content but most is bullshit, unless you are a big fan of that certain title/series, whatever that may be.
But I am sad I can't use it :(

I'm lucky enough to own both HD consoles.. i get the luxery of choosing which version i want. Most that will want to enjoy this game will not be as lucky. Why should it be acceptable for them to pay £50 for the same game yet get less content given to them? I wouldnt expect ps3 owners to be happy getting less of a game. If it's charged dlc then fine... you're getting something extra because you paid extra - thats how life works.

About the DLC: In general it's stupid, whether MS or Sony do it. It's no reason for me to go with the ps3 version as I already decided to go with the pc-version because of the superiour graphics. DLC should not be used in this way. It makes a negative impression on the customer.
they're rental material for me. definitely want to play them both tho. i have a feeling i'm gonna hate RDR tho, for the same reasons i hated far cry 2.
You would be screwed as much as us and have to either a) buy it or b) wait a long time for it to be cheaper.
You are just lucky enough to be able to rent games there. There are ALOT of games I wish I could rent and not buy or rent and try them out if I like, I buy them.

but back then i didnt like renting games, so what option did i have. my game collection only really ever grown when an exclusive is release that i like the look of. otherwise it's a rental which saves me hundreds by just renting mediocre crap i'm curious about like say, FF13 or dante's inferno, or those games that fall into that awkward 7-8/10 bracket where they're too good to just ignore, but not good enough to buy at full price. perfect recent example of that being crackdown 2.
tbh, having experienced rentals for the last 2 years, i dont think i'd be able to cope without it since i save SO much money. but you can't miss what you never had, so if i never even started renting games, i'd probably have a stupidly big collection of 360/PS3 games where most of them are medicore. like most people do.
But I agree, if you get less you should pay less for the game no matter the console.
Trust me when I say most of the games I have purchased this generation I would rent, there might be VERY few rare games I would definitely buy, but most of them wasent all that.
And obviously, if you rent games than buy games for $70-80$ for each title and then a few weeks later or months you decide to trade it you wasted money, while renting the games you save alot of money.
