RPG's based on Unreal Engine 3 is a bad idea... good looking hair though.

I am very impressed by the visuals.... with so many RPGs on the Xbox 360 it is going to be very hard to choose. Still haven't picked up "..." Undiscovery (forgot the prefix). Don't know anything about this game yet, story wise, but it looks very promising. I just hope it is not release just before FF XIII.

Hmmm... you should know by now... it's never about the ENGINE! FFVII and FF XII still holds the crown when it comes to story, cut-scenes and gameplay.

The thing that is impressive, is that everyone expected a low-budget project and a sub-par effort, and it looks half-way decent. hope it comes as good in the gameplay aspect, thats what matters.

I would say LO looks better than this but it looks fine...

SE should probably shop their engine out...FFXIII looks so much better than any upcoming rpg...it would be much more suitable for this game than UE 3...the characters may have actually looked like their artwork

Statements based on retardation is a bad idea.

Somewhat muddy textures, but the real eye-sore is how empty the environments are...come on people, it's not a PS2 you're working on!

FF12 ? lol get out of here, the cinematic quality of the game was very well done, but the story was complete trash.

No it was just not a regular shitty jrpg story. Huge difference.

That's a matter of taste and opinion. "complete trash" as opposed to the current batch of RPG that I have played is a serious over-exaggeration.

Fact of the matter is I enjoyed the game and everything it stands for. You are still entitled to your opinion of course but some times I wonder where the real argument is for making such a blatant statement.

I tell you what is trash... Killzone's story is egregious... so flat that I can't bring up the juice to finish the game. So I wonder why I sit through some games, at times clock in around 60 to 70 hours, and finish them. It's a combination of things right? I even lost interest playing Fable II and yet clocked in over 120 hours playing Fallout 3.

See, there's little that your statement will do in the end to change how people have experienced their games. While everybody is entitled to say what they want maybe it's time some construct their lines with more argumentation than simple drivel.

Oh I get it, the Star Wars vibe yeah ? no thanks. the story in FF12 was indeed mediocre at best and P.S. no one is claiming other JRPGs have come up with the goods in story either.

Actually, no. What i like about the story in FFXII (and Tactics as well for that matter) is that it does not entirely focus on the little group of nobodies that fight some malevolent entity that crushes planets, but has a somewhat political perspective as well. What happens in the world affects the story and plays a part in how it unfolds, much unlike many other JPRGs. To me that makes the world feel more interesting and fleshed out, and that makes a HUGE difference. I feel the same way about, for example, the Suikoden games as well.

The fact of the matter is that Final Fantasy has jumped the shark (or whatever the videogame equivalent is). Since FFX they've all been garbage if you ask me, even the handheld ones--and yet, the series is still better than most RPGs today.

To stay on topic, one of those RPGs is Magna Carta. If you could endure more than a few hours of the original game, I commend you. Some developers need to understand that there is beauty in simplicity.

Broman: no that is not fact, it's just your opinion. In my opinion FFXII is a huge rise in quality over FFX, which was a terrible game. And no, i didn't find Magna Carta: tears of blood to be a particularly good game in any sense. Great character art though.

any better than the 20th iteration of the same old story lines (and ironically, more blatant copies of characters that S-E gets accused of copying all the time despite having avoided said copies for over 10 years)? and not even the good story lines! no wait, i forgot, adding a certain name to the conversation instantly made them fresh, innovative and brilliant! (even if he hired someone else to write the good stuff).

actually people claim that all the time. ESPECIALLY with the above hinted supposed king of all things rpg.

Some people here need to drop the 'facts'.

Everyone here is entitled to his/her opinion and that my friend is a fa-..ehm..yeah.

Ontopic: nice art, but for me rpg's are all about the story.

If the story is good I will probably end up playing it. X)

Meh, to each thier own. FFXII was the game that broke the series for good to me. Terrible story, poor sound, a horrible battle system, and characters I cant even remember. There was literally nothing good about it, hell, it didnt even look that great at the time due to not even being 480p.(ie. doesnt look that great on an HDTV) FFXIII though does appear to be a nice improvement, got to play the demo for a bit and was quite pleased they took a step back to improve the battle system. Now I just hope the characters are memorable and not star wars clone trash, jar jar and all. (and I did beat XII, just like every other FF game to date, I just was appalled by it)

As for MC2, its looking really good. Read through the japanese site and the famitsu article a week or so ago, have to say im looking forward to it. Art is a bit wierd though.

Actually i'd have to say that the crap we usually see in the FF games are the "clones". Most games you could hardly tell apart if you just read a plot synopsis. XII stepped a tad outside the regular jrpg turf and because of that everybody hates it.

Probably because they were expecting the same, it's a bit of a vicious circle if you ask me.

I mean FF12 didn't feel much like a FF game, even the moogles didn't look like moogles.

That was the problem though, You can alter the plot but there are staples of th series you cant change. They adjusted everything in the title. The plot wasnt the worst part to me though, sure I got bored with it fast and the characters lacked any personality at all outside balthier, but the battle system is what I hated. It was way too MMO for my taste. And programming the actions in so that I never actually had to play was just boring.(I loathed gambits)

As for the other FF games, I enjoyed the plots of all of them. And honestly, even 12 fell along hte lines of 6 or 7 with its world at war theme. The characters were just not as developed and the world itself felt like starwars. The only FF game that was less memorable to me was FFIX, which i loved but to this day, even having beaten it twice, cant remember a single thing about.

I agree that all FF games after FFX were bad, but I don't agree about Magna Carta. :P I liked MC: Tears of Blood more than FFXII because of the story and characters. FFXII was terrible in that aspect and no matter how great the gameplay and graphics are, if the story and charas suck, the game sucks for me (FFVII has terrible graphics, but is 1000000 better than FFXII). I couldn't bring myself to finish it, and I'm a huge FF fan. Like someone said, I also can't remember the names of the most charas or anything about them or the story, it was that boring. And I played it only a year ago.

MC:TOB on the other hand was sometimes annoying because of the linear play, but the story and charas were awesome. Too bad Calintz looks too feminine, but he's still way better than Vaan *rolls eyes*. Anyway, MC2 look very promissing and the main guy looks like a guy this time *yay*, looking forward to it. Too bad it's for XB360, I'll have to borrow the console from someone. :P
