Well they sure don't know how to showcase their graphics engine do they? I'm sure it will look great though in the end and I'm sure I will be buying it. I hope at some point they go back to their roots though and create a kick ass WW2 shooter based on this engine. Haven't seen a good one for a long long time. These 'modern warfare' games are a dime a dozen now. It's getting old!

Medal of Honour was prolly the game that felt (at least tryied to fake it well) more authentic in the usage of modern warfare. Loved those C-130 Hercules Goddamn cannons firing.

GOD DAMN YOU EA LOL
I wish that the new generation of consoles will bring some new generation of Ideas - cause the war idea is been promoted too much for too long. Im not saying this from a hippy point of view but there has to be more game narratives out there other than the god damn wars.... but its all about making money isn't it?
I get it though cause first person view puts you right in the game plus we know so much about wars so a game can deliver a very realistic experience. ...but what happened to the good old fantasy? What happened to the good old action adventure games? I mean there is still some descent ones out there but their sales numbers are not even close to those of Modern warfare and battlefield. I just feel it has become a stereotype and if the developers try hard enough - then the online play can become enjoyable for other games too and not just guns v guns. When I play games I also like to escape to the creators ideas - but it seems that only Japanese style gaming and art design still delivers that idea while the rest of the world is still doing headshots lol.

There's plenty of games that prove you wrong. Bastion, Limbo, Braid, Dear Esther, Rayman Origins, Journey, Legend of Grimrock, The Witcher 2, Dark/Demons Souls, Portal 2, Machinarium, Minecraft, Terraria and the list goes on and on. The good innovative games are out there. You just have to look beyond EAs and Activisions mainstream catalogues.

What does sales have to do with anything? Cod sales are huge but the games are shit. Sales does not constitute a good game and the smaller devs cant compete with EA/Acti pr-machines.

What do you mean online games? All the games i mentioned is playable in singleplayer and some of them are playable in coop/online.

I think that the popularity of the setting is one of the things he's complaining about. I don't really see how that's EA's fault though.. but hey.. we can figure out a way to make it their fault.

I'm not terribly interested in this game, or Call of Duty (anymore), but I love Battlefield 3. I don't really see why we have to group all of these games together. Beyond their shared setting, they're all very different games.

Innovation doesn't live and die in fantasy. There's hardly an online shooter this generation more ambitious than BF3.

The only thing I complain about EA is their effort to keep bringing the same franchise out over and over again and paying big $$ for promotion and marketing. How many FIFA and Need for Speed out there for example. and Yes I should just ignore the popular list cause there is still some descent games out there like I mentioned before... I guess I should get a Wii instead and stop complaining about it LOL

Unfortunately ambition doesn't equal greatness or perfection. Most of that is probably EAs fault though cause they wanted to rush the game out before MW3. Just seeing the basic stuff being patched in now and all the bugs that still aren't fixed it's obvious that bf3 was released way to early. Plus alot of weird design choices like lag compensation, map design, or letting a web design studio design the games UI and it turning out very unintuitive and switching from pc as lead to ps3 halfway through.

I still enjoy the game though but I always have that feeling in the back of my head that bf3 could have been so much more.

It's what people buy, and last time I checked, every publisher does it. EA made a big push for new IP's around 2007. They seemed to have burnt through the goodwill that bought them.

And no you should get a PC instead ;) Indies FTW.

The only problem I have with pumping out new games is when quality degrades, or when they appear to go off the rails. I'm glad Medal of Honor is here, mostly because it means Battlefield is safe from yearly entries. I also hope that DICE doesn't do BF4 next. I'd prefer another spin-off (2143, Bad Company 3, whatever) before that happens. I'm also glad DICE is off of this franchise completely. More time for all things Battlefield.

BF3 is a great game. Battlelog is an awesome back end for the game. So many of these issues are so totally overblown. When you take a few steps back, Battlefield is at the top of its sub-genre by a country mile. The only thing that I would like to see changed right now is suppression, and it's hardly keeping it from being awesome.

I'm super happy with BF3's success too, despite all the naysayers. The PC version is regularly competing with (or exceeding) console numbers (online players). Hell, it's regularly got twice the population of that other modern wargame. It's also got a bit of an e-sports following--not the best, but even BF2 faded fast in CAL. The bottom line is that people are unusually critical of BF3 because they have some inflated image of what 1942 and BF2 were.

So it may not be to your liking.. but I respectfully disagree.

Bf3 is to my liking but as much as I like it I hate getting random Bad Lucks, getting killed while in cover because of lag comp (was the same crap in BC2 but naive as I were I thought they would fix that for Bf3). If I am going to get killed in an fps that has that kind of competetive atmosphere that Bf3 has it should be because i screwed up, not because the dev created areas that if I go near I die or designed a netcode which caters to ppl with bad connection. Dying from jumping 5 meters into water is also fubar and still isn't patched.

The flashlight is still bright as hell and Dice was talking about patching that in the weeks following release but it didn't happen and nothing was changed in the latest patch either.

And all the talk about upping the Destruction. Destruction 2.0 proved to mean less destruction than in BC2 which for me was a big letdown. I was looking forward to more destruction. Dice promised more detailed destruction but that was all PR-talk. I'm happy that players can look past all of these things, sometimes i can too, but then the random Bad Luck comes around, dying from falling into water etc and I get reminded of everything that still needs fixing. That's what I get for buying the game on release i guess but will try to wait a minimum of 6 months before buying the next Bf-game because by that time they usually have smoothed alot of the rough edges.

I agree that Battlelog is a great feature and for that Dice deserves all the praise.

As said before: I still enjoy the game though but I always have that feeling in the back of my head that bf3 could have been so much more.

And I just straight up disagree with most of the rest of that. I've played a lot of FPS and I've yet to encounter a perfect game. Be it lag, be it a glitch, or a bug or a balance issue. BF3 gets shat on because it's big name.

totally agree.
I guess my nagging comes to the fact that this is how the market is shaped and if no new trends come in place -- then during the next gen wars , the developers will try to bring these type of IPs out first in order to impress the crowd - I was playing naruto Rise of the ninja the other day and I wanted to unlock more achievements but I needed someone online and unfortunately there was none - after 7 days trying I found a dude that he also expressed his surprise of actually finding someone online hehe.

Or alternatively devs could make something which isn't an indentikit soldier shooter game.

Best game of the year so far for me was Journey. Funnily enough, it didn't feature a single soldier. Or a gun. But it did have plenty of imagination and beauty.

I think the most tiring thing about these type of games is the "follow" mechanic. I don't want to have to follow an AI's lead anymore.

I'd like to see the good old tactical shooter return.

I think the fact it was broken on release, is constantly being changed to cater to the whiners, and the fact it's taken a few too many leaves out of COD's book is why it gets a lot of hate. Personally i just just got rid of it, just wasnt worth keeping hold of. On consoles, considering they have only JUST fixed certain things, i honestly think they should have released the game now. No competition. No direct sales war with COD. Not many games being released. And the additional time could have fixed all the problems that the game launched with (and in some cases still has)

Hopefully they learn their lesson and BF4 will be a better game? But seeing as they didnt seem to learn their lesson between BC2 and BF3, i'm not holding my breath.

If you're going to judge BF3 by a watered down console port, I can certainly see how it must seem pretty shitty. I think they learnt plenty of lessons from BC2, since BF3 inherited most of its good qualities while ditching most of the things that made it completely forgettable. It's a much better game than Bad Company 2. I'm critical of BF3 at times, but in the way that most people who actually play a thing are. I see plenty of people complain that it's not "authentic" only to turn and admit their preference for Rush or Bad Company. The whole thing is just amusing.

I think my favorite are the whiners who complain about whiners.

I know it said so in the patch notes but several times in daylight i have been blinded by that flashlight, it shone up my whole screen. I do not see a difference from before. Maybe they nerfed it and the change is so minimal that i didn't notice it.

And of course Bf3 gets a lot of critique because of it's name. Their past/history and the way it was marketed as the second coming of fps it should get it.

Dice should really start with more extensive beta testing before they release their games so they can discover bugs more easily. A couple of weeks of beta testing on one map with no vehicles a month before release is not enough for a game this big. But they didn't and the result is a game where alot af balance issues and bugs is still present at release. I don't think they will though because they did the same with BC2.

And I don't see my complaints as whine but as justified critique.

I don't know why I bought the last Medal of Honor, I am not really into these super pro American military shooters but man that game was awful.

The only thing I liked about it was the part when you are stuck in the valley and the Taliban are assaulting you from the mountains (reminded me on that part in RE4 when you are stuck in a house with the Spanish cop and the girl).

Never again
